Our Little League has lost its concession stand so the parents have all signed up to bring a snack/drink for the baseball team after each game. Need suggestions please? Also may have some peanut/tree nut allergic kids.
Thanks

We take turns bringing snacks for my daughters soccer team. Favorites are sliced oranges (I get a big bag from Costco and put one sliced orange in each baggie), granola bars, beef jerky, apple slices, grapes, bagged chips and sometimes cookies. For drinks we generally buy small bottle water or Gatorade by the case. The kids are tired of Capri Suns. We make an effort to provide healthy choices.

For our teams it is set up for only fruit: bananas, apples, oranges, grapes, ?

Make sure you have a trash bag for anything near where they are eating. We have wrongly assumed kids would use trash cans in the past, but if there isn't one close you may have a mess to clean up. Now I just hook a Walmart/Target bag onto the container holding the fruit and no more problems.

I may cut up watermelon when the weather warms up more and we can find good ones.

A team mom and allergy parent here:

If you think there are allergy kids on the team, I would only do pre-packaged labeled snacks. I love the healthy fruit idea, but I would not let my DS eat oranges sliced at someone else home because I have no clue as to whether they had just made their child a peanut butter sandwich where they cut the oranges. I would buy the packages of apple slices if you want fruit. They are more expensive but in reality you only have to buy once or twice a season maybe. Many parents do rice krispy bars, chips in individual bags, small bags of cookies etc. Always prepackaged. Now, I do not expect parents to cater to my PA child and I always have him a snack but 99% of the parents do remember to check labels and have a safe snack and I am very grateful. Oh, drinks can be anything, but the kids really like Gatorade and water bottles with the pop-up tops.

DH coaches soccer. There are no concessions. He requests oranges or bananas and bottled water only. Each parent(s) signs up for one game. The first year, one parent brought candy bars and soda. After that he made the healthy "rule".

To go along with the healthier snack idea but keeping it pre-packaged, how about the re-packaged apples? You can get them at Costco in bulk. When I was in charge of snack I did grapes (no allergies to worry about) and sun chips.

OP here.....

Ok so I neglected to mention that concession did NOT contain healthy snacks. It was filled with candy, chips, soda, ice cream, pizza, burgers, & dogs, nachos, etc
I don't think these 11/12yr old boys are going to appreciate cut up fruit as an alternative. ;) They will be looking for the junk snacks!

Costco! hand out clementines (easier to peel than oranges) and snack bags of kettle korn :) i am not sure your going to really be able to replace the concession stand with snacks on the go.

When my kids were younger we always had to bring snack even though we had concession stands.

It was always junk food! People would bring packages of little bites, little bags of chips, popcorn, fruit snacks, brownies, etc.

When it was hot outside, the most appreciated snacks were ice cream and ice pops! A mom or dad would run home before the end of the game and grab them.

Also, most people brought extras for all of the siblings that were around as well.

For all of our kids sports stuff, they usually have oranges or some type of fruit during half time, and then a juice box/gatorade after with something like cheezitz, goldfish, fruit gummy things, crackers, granola bars etc. Sometime parents will bring real junky stuff like chips or cookies, but we usually bring some type of crackerish thing.

crackers and string cheese

But really, why not have the kids just each bring their own snack?

My son's hockey team (11 & 12 yr olds) did the snack thing this year, the biggest hit was "fruit by the foot" roll ups. Costco!

I couldn't agree more. I always bring water for my own kids and I usually have some sort of snack for them. I think the snack thing tends to be more with younger kids, and it starts to stop as they get around 10+. My son's hockey team did it this year, he is 11, and I kind of grumble about it, but go with the flow.

I agree, too. Ours probably stopped around 10 as well.

I never really understood the need. They were never allowed to eat during the games. When the game ended, the kids grabbed their snack and headed for the car. Everyone lived within 10 minutes of the fields, so it wasn't long until they were home anyway!

I went with the flow, too and brought snacks on my assigned days!

I would stick with something prepackaged. Its safer to stick with prepackaged that way if someone does have a reaction you can track down easier where it came from.

Some favorites are the little bags of chips, the Grips, any 100 calorie snack. And usually we do the All-star gatorades since they are smaller and easier to deal with.

This idea for a treat was requested by the Coach. He feels that the kids deserve some kind of treat after playing so hard during the game. Concession was a big hit with the kids so they will be sad to not have it.

When DS10 played baseball, it was usually a bag of chips and a gatorade after the game. A few times we got creative and brought ice cream sandwiches for the team and one time I left towards the end of the game and picked up a few Little Caesars pizzas for the boys. Both were a hit and others also used that idea. The ice cream was a challenge as we live in South Florida and ice cream tends to melt fast, even when it is in a cooler. We got creative and made it work. Depending on the time of the game, and since you are not looking for the healthy options, a dozen donuts or muffins maybe?
