OK parents of teen girls......

Is it really appropriate for girls to be in their sports bras without wearing a shirt over it?

My DD and I are not seeing 'eye to eye' on this. What do you guys think?

No..it is not appropiate. Put a damn shirt on:)

I wouldn't let my 12 yo daughter do it. Not even when she's older. I don't think she'd want to though so it may not be an issue.

I would say it depends. At my daughters HS the runners, soccer and cheer teams all practice in sports bra and spanks. At the mall no.

I don't think it is appropriate. It's a bra which means underwear. Underwear means you wear it under something. When I was a cheerleader in high school, a lot of the girls wanted to just wear a sports bra to make it less likely to catch something during stunting. Our coach compromised by saying that we had to wear 2. That way, one was the bra and the other was the shirt.

Mine are 19 and 24 and I don't think they ever wore a sports bra alone, without a shirt to cover - unless they were just walking through the house on the way to the laundry room or something.

But, I've been out of the teen mother business for about two months since DD18 went to college, and that's plenty of time for the fashion trend to change:rotfl:
Unless she's really exposing herself, I'd pick my battle with this issue. If her school thinks it's inappropriate they'll make a rule about it that she'll have to follow. Otherwise I wouldn't argue about it.

I agree with kidzmom3. Many teams in conservative KY do it. The first time my DD changed shirts from warm up to uniform at the soccer bench I thought I might faint because she would have never done that without the team and was very modest. Now, she'll change shirts with a sports bra on in the middle of anywhere no matter who is looking. Also all the cross country girls just wear them while running all summer.

Sometimes the girls want to wear sports bras to games and then paint the school colors on their skin and write a letter from the name of the school and they stand in a line to spell out the school name. The boys are shirtless and the girls are in sports bras.

Yes, this is my DD (who is now 19, but this all started last year in high school). She says her generation thinks of them as tank tops.

No big deal. I've also seen the painted stomach look at games. I really don't think that's a big deal either.

Not sure if you are serious or not but I agree :lmao:

A sports bra and spanks? Lovely.

They do that here. Our two local HS rivals were on ESPN this August and there they were on National TV painted up.

Not a fan. My sister let my niece do it once though.

Our girls soccer team wanted to do this also. Male coaches and they said NO. Girls pitched a fit and said they were going to show up in their sports bras anyway. Started posting on FB and a coach saw it and said, "If you show up in your sports bra, you're off the team. Don't do it." Of course, they just last year had trouble with the girls softball coach sleeping with about 4 team members. :rolleyes2

This would be a no go with me.

I really don't understand why this is a big deal. Men/boys go shirtless all the time. And as someone else said, sports bras provide more coverage than most bikini tops. What about runners frequently thar wear tops that are sports bras. Is that inappropriate?

100% fine with it (if they are not overweight).. My dd is 13 and wears one for soccer under her shirt..

After games she will be around the house with it on and nothing wrong with it. (again if the kid is not overweight)..

I don't see the big deal. Most of them cover more than a bikini top would and most of them are made out of a heavier sports tank top material.

Agreed! I don't wear them and neither does my 17 y/o daughter, but I have seen many teen bikini tops (we live in a beach town), and I can assure you the sports bras cover more. While I don't think sports bra are appropriate in a restaurant, church, the mall, etc, I can't imagine being bothered by them on a soccer field or track.

It depends on the bra.

This one? Sure...

This one? Maybe not...

The first one looks like a crop top. The second "looks" like a bra.
