Anyone just GO? Packed the family up, drove for x amount of hours & played for a weekend?

Wondering if it would be worth a try for the future...not DSs FIRST trip, but maybe after. Doing it simple w/ inexpensive meals & maybe not getting all the rides, but just the fact we're there would be worth it.

Anyone do this?

We do that throughout the year. Usually during the long weekends. I have family in Los Angeles. We usually spend a couple days with them and then one day at the Parks.

We did that during the 50th on Labor Day weekend (went to the parks Sunday and Monday). It was one of our best trips ever.

Would love to be able to do that, just tooooooooooooo far.

We are too far for a weekend get away, I did plan an October trip 30 days before we went last year, that was so fun. It helped that we had been there before and I knew what a good price was and what I was looking for.

Last year my g-ma surprised me with wanting to go to dl. I had 4 days to get the tickets, prepare & pack. It was crazy but it was a very fun trip, we live close enough to just drive (about a 3 hour trip) :)

Its too far from us to drive from WA on the spur of the moment. Its a couple day drive each way! But, our "suprise" trip last March was pretty short notice for us. We booked in early Feb when we figured out our taxes. We went the first week of March. Considering we had just been there in Oct, it was a pretty quick return! The nice thing about going back to back like that was we didnt feel we needed to see and do everything and we didnt have to buy a lot of souviners.

I would love to do that, but unfortunately for us, it means an airfare and the joys of going through customs! We had family that lived in Simi Valley and I was shocked how they didn't go to DL very often, I just couldn't figure that one out

Yes, numerous times! We are fortunate to live in Northern CA (just 6 hours away!). I have many times packed up the kids and hubby for a short trip--like to use Priceline to get hotels. My girlfriends and I also frequently do a "moms" trip to DLR. Hubbies like it when we go because we are ALWAYS (;) ) in a good mood afterwards!

One year (2003) my husband ended up having a week off work.

We were on a tight budget at the time. But had WDW tickets left over from a trip years ago.

We used priceline.com and got they Hyatt for $29 a night. (4 nights)

I brought most of the food with us. I think we ate out 3 times.

The trip ended up costing us $400. Including gas from SLC.

I am so glad that we did it. My daughter was 4 at the time. It was a perfect age for her to be at disney. Everything was magical! She was beyond thrilled at everything she saw.

Oh yeah! Those are the BEST! Needless to say, all of our trips are spur of the moment/spontaneous! It's mostly when we get discounted airfare, and when there's discounted airfare hotels are usually cheap too. And our friend who works there let's us in free. :) Just LOVE how all that works out :goodvibes
