This just in.....the new fall 2010 race will in fact be a half marathon. The theme is along the lines of the Food and Wine Half Marathon. It will be held on October 2, 2010 and........will be at night after the parks close!!! I could not get any details about the course but I do know that EPCOT will be involved.....and based on some of the information I suspect there might be a post race party as well?!?!? I have heard this from a very reliable source at Disney!!!! This sounds very exciting

I moved this from the WISH side to this, the Events side of WISH.

Interesting. I still wish they'd just make the announcement already or as I've wished, that at least make the date official so those planning could get on with that part of life.

Hmmmm. It will be iffy for me. Can't stand the running in the heat. But then again, I do it here at home. :teeth:

Edited to add: Thanks for the info, disney25. I'm anxious to hear more about it.

I think a night time half would be really cool and need to think about getting down there for it. I may have to put it off a couple of years though. I am still hoping to go for the coast to coast in 2011 and we were told yesterday that we have to take a temporary 5% pay hit which is not trip-conducive.

Shoot. Probably after my bedtime.

Just put it on my calendar so I can book DVC and vacation at that time. It's my favorite time of year to go so I'm definately in. Gives me my fall goal for next year.

Thanks for sharing. I'm hating the date, however. Just like the Princess half, this one is also precisely two weeks before my kids' school vacation. I swear, it's as if they looked at our school district's calendar and planned it this way on purpose!

I just can't justify going down for a race if we're (most likely) coming back to WDW as a family days later. Although, it DOES sound like a lot of fun. Maybe it's time for a solo trip?

Thanks for the info but I'll be skipping this one. Not crazy about night races and this one will be really late for a half if they wait for Epcot to close.

Ooooooh, I will do it!

A half marathon at night would be a new one for me but it sounds like a blast. And after all that training and running I could really chow down at the F&W events. Hopefully they'd make a big party out of it!!

:sunny:

Sorry to hear about the pay cut Frank. That stinks.

Starting a half at 9:00pm(or later) would mean that some runners/walkers wouldn't finish until after midnight and closer to 1:00am. The party after that would probably only go until 2:00 am(like they do for ToT 13K). Not much time for us back of the packers.

If they started it just as getting dark(7pm), than it would be doable.

I RD a race that date so I will be skipping it in 2010.

Thanks Dave. It isn't ideal but I'm looking at the bright side. With so many people getting laid off I will take a 5% hit over a 100% hit any day. I might get an evening gig for a couple of months to soften the blow.

1 half in October, at night, sounds like a lot of fun. Looking forward to more details.

With the heat and humidity the last few days here, a night half would be awfully tough!

That's what I was thinking too - Even running in the morning was difficult because the humidity levels were so high. I didn't find the temperatures in the evening much better. I actually thought running at night was a little worse because of the bugs. I got several big bug bites :headache:

I am signed up for the princess, and will be making just a quick weekend trip. Down on Friday evening and fly home on sunday after the 1/2. Personally, I would do this .......... it just seems like fun :) Plus, I think it is easier to handle being a mom of 4 too - worse case my dh could always put the children to bed while I do the run and just restart my vacation the next day :)

Well, 2 days and 3 hours until we know all the details for sure. I think a night half will be really fun to do. If you aren't a night person I could see the issue but then again I am not a 4:00am person but I am on race days.

I was looking at the evening temps and it has been a bit hot but without the sun beating down on you I don't think it would be unmanageable, maybe not a PR, but doable.

I'm sure we will find out during the announcement but I was thinking about some of the times. I could see them starting the run in Future World at 7:00 when that part of the park closes and finishing it through WS later. They wouldn't have to close WS but have it roped off so the runners could get through. I am going to anticipate the course entering through the International Gateway and running around from France to Mexico.

I often start my long runs after dark so a night run would not be all that different from a normal week for me. :goodvibes

I'm doing my first WDW 1/2 marathon this coming January and very excited too. October is my birthday month so maybe I can convince my wife to agree to 2 Disney runs in one year!
