Spoiled Milk in the Carpet!! HELP!

We just bought a new house (it's 50 years old). We have berber carpet over hardwood floors in the bedrooms.

We found an old sippy cup (a few days, not 50 years!) under the crib and it smells AWFUL!! (It leaked whole milk)

Last night we did Resolve for pet stains & odors, it smelled like flowers in there for a while.

The stench is back.

Any suggestions??!!!

Maybe put some oxy clean on it, but it may make a really clean spot there, so you might want to get prepared to clean the entire carpet. After that maybe try your resolve again.

Yuck!

Rent or borrow a steam cleaner (or invest and buy one, you've got a kid, this will NOT be the last time you have a spill...)and use the hottest water you can (with carpet cleaner, of course!) over the area/whole room. After that, put a mixture of vinager and water (no soap this time!) in the machine, run it over the area again.

My parents do have one of those Hoover Cleaners (they work great), I guess we'll borrow it for the weekend!!!

I LOVE vinegar, not the smell, but that it's so cheap and works for all kinds of things!!

try baking soda. Or head to a janitorial supply store. They have stuff to take all kinds of smells out...can't remeber the name. It works great though.

When we had that happen ago it was suggested to take a 4 oz bottle of lemon extract and put it in 2 quarts of water and then scrub it in. Don't rinse it out but wipe as dry as possible. If that doesn't work it may be in your carpet padding and the carpet may need to be pulled up and the smelly part of the pad replaced.

Good luck...that smell is horrid!!!
