Splitting Your Stay

On my last trip, my DD and I stayed at CSR and we loved it. This time I really wanted to stay at a Deluxe but I don't think I can afford it for the whole 7 days. I was thinking of starting trip at Pop Century for 3 days and spending last 4 days at Poly. Has anybody done this and how does it work? Do they move your bags for you?

My DD & I have split our stays at least 10 times - we love it! It's so easy, especially if you pack light & don't mind washing clothes mid-stay (I wash on the last night of resort #1, so all is clean when when we switch resorts). We go to a park on "moving day" & drop our bags off at Bell Services for WDW to transfer. We usually leave the park around 1pm & hop on a bus to our new resort (we never have a car w/ us) to check in. Only a couple of times has our room not been ready. I take our swimsuits in my backpack so we can swim/enjoy the sun while we're waiting on our room.
Spliiting resorts is a great way to try new resorts out, have a longer vacation, and experience different "themes". Our favorite split includes an Epcot resort (YC/BC or BWI) w/ WL or POR. A little "beachy vacation" & "woodsy one" on the same trip! Try it! :p

I agree, it is no trouble at all to switch resorts... I did it with 3 hotels on my last trip :)

They will move your luggage, just be patient and realize you have to check out by 11:00am and may not have a room again until 4:00pm.

We would check out, send the luggage, go to a park and by the time we were back at the new resort our stuff was there. After you check in and go to your room you call the Bellman to bring your stuff up.

Downsides are checking in twice, checking out twice, having to pack "again", tipping bellman 4 times...etc...

Upsides - trying out 2 resorts, easy luggage transfer

Have fun

We've split between CBR and AKL and like the other posters had no trouble at all. We loved the theming of CBR and were so excited about spending the last few nights of our trip at a delux hotel - everything went really smoothly. Our bags were collected by bell services in the morning from CBR. We hopped on a bus and went to check in at AKL - we then went to the AK park and left late afternoon and went to our new room. Bell services brought the bags up and we took just a few minutes to unpack.
Relax and have a great time.

As the earlier posters have noted, it's very do-able, and a nice way to experience two different resorts in a single vacation. We've done this several times, and the major downside---from my perspective---is not having a room to call "home" for part of a day. Which is not a problem if you're planning on being in the parks all day that day, but could be if you have young kids who need afternoon naps, or if you come down with a headache and want a quiet place to sleep it off...

But as long as you're aware that you'll have to check out of one room in the morning and might not be able to get into the next one until late that afternoon--and plan accordingly--you'll have a great time. Enjoy your trip!

This past September we styed at WL (which I love and is my first choice) but I couldn't get the size Villa I needed. So we split the stay we did MK while at WL then transfered to Boardwalk Villas for the next four days...drove to AK the first day there, then just enjoyed MGM and EPCOT for the rest of the trip. I must say I was disapointed when I didn't get my 1st request but now I plan on spliting stays again it was great fun like having two vacations. ::yes::

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I think I will try it. I was going to split stays as a way to save money but thinking of it as two vacations makes it even more appealing.

We are planning to try it for the first time. We are starting at AKL and then moving to the GF. Only we planned to do the Concierge so that way if our room is not ready we at least have the lounge to relax in with some coffee, etc.

We have done many trips and have moved a few times - but it was not planned so we were caught off guard without a room and we did go to the MK - however a huge bird made a huge deposit on my DH shirt so we went back to the second hotel and our room was not ready yet. We, of course, checked all of our luggage so he had to sit around in THAT DISGUSTING shirt for a few hours.

This time we are packing a smaller bag with clothes for the first hotel and plan to not unpack the other bags. And of course my DH is going to be wary of big birds...

 Can't wait.

If you do split your stay, make one of them in the Epcot area. Either BW, BC,Dolphin or Swan. It is so convenient to walk to Epcot & boat to MGM. Makes the stay even more fun.

I stay at BWV...second half of my trip. If you get 1BR there is a w/d which I take full advantage of. This way I cut down on packing for all. do wash mid way through vacation and last day. So when I get home, have clean clothes as well.

I was orginally thinking of splitting between POP Century and Poly but now I think POR and Poly might be a better choice. Since we stayed at CSR last time, I think I'd like to try POR. It's more centrally located. We could to Studios and AK first and when we move, do MK and Epcot.

Our next trip will split between Pop (6 nites) and BWI (3 nites). I figured Pop since it's new and BWI because it looks like fun and we haven't even been to the boardwalk area yet. Wanted to check it out on the last trip, but never made it over. So that will be an all new experience for us.

We usually take a backpack into the parks and share carrying it. The day we transfer we put extra stuff in it, the just in case stuff since we're without a hotel room for a few hours. Extra shoes in case it pours, extra shirt for spills (will only happen if you can't change), that's the idea. We try checkin around 4 and see what happens. Done it several times both at WDW and DL without any problems at all.
