Splitting stay in two resorts

Does anyone know how it works if you stay in one resort for a few nights and then switch to another as far as transportation? We were thinking of starting at POR then going to SOG for the last few nights, but how do we do that with luggage?

Thank you

We go to WDW 2x a year and in august we stay at one resort (too hot to switch for us) but in april we always split our stay. We like to start out at a Magic Kingdom resort and then switch over to an EPCOT (our favorite park) resort. We love doing this as it is like having two very different vacations.

It is very easy to switch from one resort to the other. The morning of your switch you just get up, pack your bags, call bell services and tell them where you are going and they will transfer your bags. Then you go off to a park or wherever you choose, and then later go to your new resort to check in.

The cons of this is that you are basically "homeless" that day until check-in time. If you have a young child who needs a nap at a certain time then that can be tough. If it is a rainy day then you need to find places to go so you won't get wet. Some people don't like not having a place for those hours, but it has never been a problem for us. You will also need to check in again, and get new room keys issued. We have ap's so I am not sure how they handle passes or what they do if you are on the dining plan.

You can always request late check-out to minimize the time you are without a room. In april we will first be at The Grand Floridian and I am hoping to make breakfast plans for 'Ohana's at the Polynesian. Then we will spend time at the MK and then make our way over to MGM or EPCOT and then get over to the Yacht Club.

We have enjoyed splitting our stays and it has been fun trying the different resorts. One trip we split our stay at 3 resorts and that was just waaaaay too much for even us!

We just did a split stay a couple of weeks ago. I actually took my luggage with me and kept it in my car until I was ready to check in to the second hotel. I know you can have them take it for you, but I like having my luggage with me and not having to wait for it.

As JESW said, you are sort of "homeless" for the day, but my kids are 7 and 11 and we rarely go back to the hotel during the day anyway, so it's really not a big deal for us.

Last year we went for Easter break and spent 2 nights at Pop then moved to CS for 6 nights. We had a rental car checked out in the morning and moved our own luggage with us. We were at CS around 11:30 am to check in and expected to have them hold our luggage but we lucked out, they had a room ready! I hope you are as lucky, if not they will certainly hold the luggage for you.

Enjoy your trip! We are going again next April and can't wait!!

We've split hotels on our stay more than once and found that we really enjoy experiencing the different resorts. We haven't had Disney move our luggage, but I know that this is possible. On our last trip in September, we were able to check in immediately to our room although it was many hours before check-in time. This is probably not common although it was very nice.

We've split stays and had Bell services transfer the luggage. Worked great. We're splitting stays again over Christmas.

It's a nice way to experience multiple resorts in 1 visit.

This is a great idea! I think splitting our stay is the only way we'll ever get to stay in all the resorts we'd like to stay in - especially if they keep building more.

Disney makes it easy for you. The only downside is packing everything up and then waiting for your new room and unpacking. It can be a time consumer.

We just got back from POR. My parents split their stay from Pop Century and moved to POR. Well, they LOST my parents luggage, which had my sister's WEDDING Dress, my bridesmaid dress and little flower girls dresses. He lost a whole day at the park trying to get them to find the luggage and get everything staightend out. They finally found the luggage and delivered in just in time for my dad to run over to Epcot and join us before the park closed! :guilty:

I have always found it easy to have split stays at Disney but then again I don't have to pack or move children or large group of people. Bell Services does come and move your luggage for you and you are somewhat homeless for that day your moving (or at least until your next room is ready and you clear checkin at the next resort). However, you may want to call disney to inquire if they will move the luggage to SOG for you. I know that SOG does work a bit differently than other wdw properties as it isn't managed by Disney so just call to make sure that Disney will transport the luggage for you. If for some reason they don't then it is easy to take a cab there and drop it off if need be.
