Splitting Resorts-DDDP Question

We Are staying 4 nights at the Poly and 4 nights at AKL. Apparently we have to use our first 4 nights credits up on day 5 by midnight, which we'll do no problem. In fact, we'll have to dip into the credits beginning the second half of the trip on the 5th day at lunch, but this will be before we check-in to AKL. My question is, do we have to check-in the AKL first to get a new KTTWC? We planned on going to MGM from the Poly and having lunch at the HBD before checking into AKL but will not have any credits left...will we have to go to AKL first or is there another way we can start using our next 4 nights credits without trekking to the lodge before the park? Thanks very much for any help you can give me on this complicated issue!

you would need to check in as it is a new ressie(if you want to use credits from the 2nd stay)
