Splitting Payments between 2 Credit Cards

Hello everyone! Anyone who can answer, it would be much appreciated! My questions:
  1. I have booked a shore excursion. Is there any way to pay for it in advance, or is it only charged once onboard (in which case, is it billed to the cabin of each participant? Does it show up immediately, or not until the day of the excursion?)? I want to be sure to use my own credit card to pay for this, not have it billed to the card of the person who booked the trip.
  2. Can I go to Guest Relations onboard to pay down some of the cabin charges with a different credit card than the one used to pay for the cruise (similar to how at WDW I go to the front desk part-way through my trip to pay off some of the charges on my account)?
  3. Also, I feel like I read that gratuities can be prepaid - can someone point me to where/how to do that? Am I correct in thinking that this would allow me to enter in credit card info and that I could use a different one that was used for the cruise?
Thanks!!

The CC you enter during online check in is the card that will be charged for port adventures and anything you purchase on board.

Yes.

If the cruise was booked using a Travel Agent, you would call them to prepay gratuities. If no TA, call DCL to prepay.

Are you in the same stateroom as the other person? If in a different stateroom, the excursion charge will go to each individual's stateroom.

Yes, you can essentially "buy" onboard credit. It can be done via the onboard gifts order, or you (or your TA) can call to simply add extra -- enough to cover gratuities, excursions, etc.

ETA: each adult can set-up their own credit card for their stateroom charges.

Thank you both for your quick replies!!

Apologies, I see that some further details would have been helpful. We are a party of 6 with 2 guests in each of 3 staterooms. Grandmother has paid for all 3 cabins and is the one person not going on the excursion. DH & I want to be sure to pay for the shore excursion, plus gratuities, and also the photo package.

It sounds like these items (shore excursions, gratuities, photo package, and any other add-ons) are billed to the cabin and not actually charged until....when? The beginning of the cruise (for photo packages)? The day of the activity (for shore excursions or onboard activities)? The end of the cruise (for gratuities)?

I do not have a TA on this, so it sounds like my choices are:
  • go into the onboard gifts area online and presumably there will be a way to find an onboard credit area where I can select an amount to pay on each cabin as credit
  • call DCL to do the same
Could I also go to Guest Relations once onboard and have them use my credit card to pay for cabin charges at that point, or will some things already have been billed to the original card?

Thank you again!!

Each adult will be able to set their own payment method for cabin charges -- and you can set your payment for any minors in your cabin or another cabin. So most things are charged to the individual as it occurs (on the date of the excursion) and would therefore hit your credit card instead of grandma's -- things like gratuities, shore excursions, drinks, adult meals, souvenirs, etc. I'm not sure about the photo package -- recommend purchasing at least 1 cabin in advance for the discount and I thought that used to be charged upfront (not sure now that DCL took over photography themselves).

Onboard charges will automatically send to the credit card(s) once accrued to a certain amount -- might be $500, maybe $750? You can stop at Guest Services at any point and make a payment.

Thank you so much!
Can you tell me when/how each adult will set up their method of payment for cabin charges? Is that in the online account somewhere to set up in advance? Sounds like that would be the perfect thing for me to do -- it would eliminate the need to pay in advance or to stop at Guest Services mid-trip, because it would all go to the designated card (mine).

It's done during online check in which you can do starting at 30 days out from your sail date.

Ahhh, perfect! I will be sure to add this to my list of notes for online check-in. TYSM!!!

This. It is required during online check-in to indicate the payment method for each passenger. The card used to pay for the cruise will not be used for anything onboard, unless it is also submitted during online check-in.

You can see how to add payment method for each passenger here when you check in.
