Splitting meals...especially kid meals

I know I read that some places charge the split plate fee - like the adult entrees. But what about from the kid's menu. My kids are light eaters. My 3 year old and 7 year old can sometimes manage to just split a bowl of mac n cheese or chicken strips and fries and the meal is plenty. Am I going to get a hard time or funny look if I say one mac and cheese order and they'll just split it? Like for instance at Cafe New Orleans or Rain Forest Cafe.???

The split plate charge is for them to split the entree and each person gets their own sides. If you want the kids to split a meal (which I do often), then just ask for an extra plate when they bring you your meal. You can split it yourself an avoid any charge.

RFC doesn't charge any split plate fees. DBF and I split everytime we eat there and it's never been a problem.
They will also have toddler meals available, if your kids won't eat 2 full size kids' meals the toddler meals are a good way to go. Or consider a "power pack" instead, it's got yogurt, a cheese stick and something else, I had apples most of the time but I got raisins a time or two.

Like 3Minnies said, just ask for an extra plate and you won't get charged a split plate fee. As far as getting funny looks about it, I wouldn't worry about that either. Our DS is almost 5 and isn't able to eat "normal" food so I always have to bring food for him and I never order him anything off the menu when we go to restaurants (at DLR or at home). I don't know if they just think I'm being cheap or what but no one has ever given me a funny look (at least not to my face ) or given me a hard time so I'm sure you won't have a problem with ordering one kid's meal for them to split.
