DBF and I have a road trip in the works and we're splitting expense. We're both buying our own tickets(Six Flags) and I'm chipping in gas but how can meals be done?

Take turns buying the meals? Decide ahead of time the maximum amount that will be spent and then take turns feeding each other.

How do you usually split dates? I have a friend who is adamant the bill should just be split in half each time, but I much prefer taking turns paying the entire bill. It may not be totally even, but it should be close if you alternate dinners. The other option would be to save receipts and at the end to determine who owes who money...seems like a lot of work to me.

most of the time DBF pays for everything on dates but we do spilt expenses on occasion(usually cash crunch and he's cool with me helping out)

Hi Nicole!!

Hey, we've got about 20 people coming to your Six Flags meet so far. We're waiting on the details from you. Most of us have already gotten vacation time. I took a head count and only 4 or 5 people want to crash at your place for the overnight stay.

Oh and if we rent a bus, we can all drive together and split the gas.

Hey Nicole.

I was wondering what was up with this. I may be one of those crashing at your house.

Looking forward to more details!!

:D

I've travelled with friends before (BF and I don't really keep track of who pays, we're pretty good about taking turns), and it may be a little tedious, but when the bill comes, we just separate everything out right there -- I'm also like the group "accountant" so I usually figure it out for everyone. So I'll add up whatever food and drink I ordered, plus my share of any appetizer(s) we may have ordered, and multiply by, as an example, 1.23 percent. The 1.23 comes from at least a 15 percent tip, plus in this example, 8 percent tax. It sounds complicated, but if there's just two of you, it should only take a couple minutes.

The other idea is for the two of you to work out a food budget now. For example, let's say for the whole trip the two of you will spend up to $500, so if you split that in half, each of you is responsible for $250. You can just keep a small piece of paper with $250 on the left for you, and $250 on the right for him, and whatever meals you pay for, deduct it from your $250, etc.

Why not just ask for separate checks when you eat in restaurants, or if you go "fast food" just each pay for your own.

All good ideas:) We did talk of splitting drinks and fast food but he wants to treat on the burgers on the way home
