Some advice needed!

If I have a 10 day booking, but decide to do a DCL cruise in the middle of these dates, how do I go about amending my booking to a split stay?

Don't really want to cancel the whole thing and start over just in case the availability gets snapped back up, so is the best thing just to call MS and have them adjust the booking?
Is it still at risk if MS have to cancel it down to do this?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Call and they will take care of it for you. They will NOT cancel what you have but rather do a modification to the reservation

Don't agree, it depends on when you call to modify. You will have to reduce the number of nights on the reservation and make a new reservation for the second stay. The new reservation follows the 11 month rule.

Ah okay, so the first part of the new split stay wouldn't be at risk, but the newly made reservation for the second part would...

Or I suppose which ever way round you request it, only one original reservation can be retained and amended, the other part of the split stay would have to be a new reservation. Is my thinking right here?

Yes.

You will end up with two reservations, so the second reservation may be an issue. There is no way to have this be only one reservation unless you pay for an empty room while cruising.

Correct, but I wouldn't think you have much risk at 11 months unless you are trying to book a category that only has a small number of rooms. That's why buying where you love to stay makes owning and getting what you want much more successful.

Yes, that's how it would work.

You will have to cancel some nights and then re-book the ones that you want. You cannot have nonconsecutive nights under the same reservation number.

If you are within the 11-month booking window for the 2nd part of your stay, you can cancel the first nights and keep the remaining nights under the original reservation number. You would then need to book the first stay and hope that the room does not get grabbed for one or more of those nights by someone else in the interim.

There's a risk that some of those nights could be lost in the process. regardless of how you do this. If you are not within the 11-month window for the 2nd reservation yet, those nights would be forfeited and you would need to wait until you are 11 months from the first night of the 2nd stay in order to book the second reservation.

I would check online for availability for the 2nd stay. Then at least you would know what you're getting into when you call.

Just keep the 30 day rule in mind on the points you will get back, or they might end up in a holding account. Also your banking dates if you plan to do that also.

As to any reservation, you can modify it without cancelling only by either dropping nights from the beginning of the reservation or dropping nights from the end of the reservation, or doing both. You cannot take out nights from the middle of the reservation and leave both the beginning and end nights. Thus if you have a single 9 night/10 day reservation, the only way you can add a cruise in the middle is to eliminate either the beginning or end of your reservation, and then make a new one for the lost days that you still want at WDW.

If you either have not made the resort reservation yet or are still far enough out so that what you have is also still available to others, then you should consider redoing your reservation now as two separate reservations, one of which would include all your possible cruise nights. For example, if of your 10 day/9 night vacation, it is the third through sixth nights that would be changed to a 4 night cruise, then make the first reservation at the DVC resort for the first six nights and the second reservation for the last three nights. Then if you choose to book the cruise later, you can just drop the last four nights of the first reservation. If you decide not to book the cruise, then contact MS and have it merge the two reservations.
