Splitting days between Universal and Disney

You owe it to yourself to try Flight of Passage once at the very least. You don’t even have to like the movie at all to enjoy the ride. I think it’s one of the best simulators out there, and I didn’t like the movie much either.

We owe it to ourselves to go where we love and enjoy everything about the place........No thanks. Oh I’m well aware I don’t need to like the movie to enjoy a park ride. Not a fan of Spider man movies, but love the ride.

No interest in going to Disney at all.

As soon as I saw that post, I thought "This poster obviously hasn't read any of her TRs...." It's good that Disney is there for those who enjoy it, but like you, I want to spend my vacation in a place I know I love.

Obviously once you've been a few times you can start to whittle down your preferences and re-allocate based on what you like, but I feel like it's just not logical to recommend that people spend more time at Universal than Disney for people who are fairly new to the parks.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
While I understand where you are coming from, I do think that what is ‘logical’ to one person could seem completely illogical to another.

If it was solely a case of wanting to try new rides, then yes, it would be logical to try and fit in as many parks as possible. But in some cases (such as mine), it’s also about other factors such as price and avoiding long queues. That’s why I’ve found it such a hard decision.

Given the choice between riding Transformers 4 times in a hour, or waiting an hour to ride FOP once, I would pick option 1. This is despite the fact that I’ve never been on FOP and would really like to. I just know that my whole family, DH particularly, becomes increasingly impatient in long queues and nerves could become frayed.

I have loved every vacation I’ve ever been on and I’m sure it’s because I always weigh up my family’s personality and choose what is logical for us.

My logical comment is purely numbers based. If you want to see everything at Disney, it will take far more time than it will to see everything at Universal.

If you're anti crowds and lines, Universal is an easier time. It's very possible to avoid waiting at Disney but requires a ton of planning; we never wait more than 30 minutes for anything at Disney and we usually go during the jam-packed Christmas season, but we have to carefully plan to do that. Universal makes it easier with the Express Pass. The ease of planning is why we own APs at Universal and not Disney. It's just way easier to do on a whim.

My point was Disney just has more to do from a pure numbers sense. It's no argument or debate, it's just how it is. For first timers I always suggest they allocate more time to Disney because it just takes more time to do. Now, if you're like @schumigirl and you go and find you enjoy Universal infinitely more than Disney, then of course I wouldn't recommend you allocate more time to Disney (or in her case any time at Disney). It will depend on your preferences.

Schumi and many many more do enjoy the darkside and spend their vacation time there

We enjoy it so much and have a forum here to share our experiences with others

For those that prefer the motherland, the Disboards have many forums, including more sub forums, to share in with their experiences

With all the posters that have a favorite park to spend their vacations at, don’t know why you single out one poster

I always tell peeps that it is their money and time so do what they wish for the family

With many parents both working, vacation time for their family is precious
Time together can be more valuable than the destination

Topics of which park is best can never be answered
All destination vacations have highs and lows

I haven't singled out anybody. I used her as an example, which you've mentioned there are many others, of how once visiting both parks, you can then decide for yourself where to spend more time. I'm sure there are others who despise Universal and spend all their time at Disney as well. There is nothing wrong with either opinion.

Yep, not difficult to understand is it :thumbsup2

Such a good post.

It is logical to me to see there’s so few things in Disney we want to see......logical to see we enjoy Universal and the surrounding Floridian area to explore all without the need to see Disney.......why some people can’t see we all do what’s logical to our families I’m not quite sure.........actually logical isn't a word I want to use with reference to such a magical place to visit for vacations.........vacations are about fun and spontaneous actions.......not preplanned and ordered.

I’m with you......every place I’ve ever travelled to in the world has been a considered decision and we’ve loved every one......except Dubai......wasn’t fond of Dubai......:sad2:

I’m sure you’ll have a great trip.........it sounds fabulous!!

Thank you!!!!

Oh no, dare I ask, what went wrong in Dubai?

Lol.......nothing went wrong exactly........I just don’t get the appeal of Dubai......I found it very dull and having been to several places over there as business was based there, it’s not a part of the world I feel comfortable in.

I did like the Burj Al Arab in UAE........would go back there again, gorgeous hotel........but in reality I probably won’t.

Fair enough. :)
We were there about 20 years ago when it looked quite radically different to how it does now, and we did enjoy it. But at the same time, I am not in too much of a hurry to go back.

You get those places that you enjoy, but tick off as ‘been there done that’.
Then there’s those other places that you go to and can’t stop thinking about until you finally get to back. Harry Potter world, here I come...
