Splitting costs for Illuminations Cruise

Quick question -- we have booked an illuminations cruise for September, and only have 4 adults, 2 kids going. If we get another family to sign on board, would the two families split the $120? Or would you think it should be split on a per-person basis?

So...say hypothetically that another family of 4 wanted to participate. That would mean 10 people total. Should we pay $60 and they pay $60 or should they pay $48 and we pay $72?

Thanks in advance...I'm not sure what the protocols would be.

from what I understand, the boat fits 12 people total regardless if the person is a child or adult. at $120, I feel that it should be divided to charge $10 per person, $60 for 1 family $40 for the other & post to have an additional 2 people. If you can not get an additional 2 people, since you booked the boat without the certainty that you could get any additional people to join you, if the other family does not offer to split the $120 1/2 & 1/2, then I feel that proper thing to do would be the family that booked it pay $80 & the add on family to pay $40

We are a party of six going in Sept - when are you going - we would be interested in sharing your cruise!!

I posted an illuminations/mk fireworks cruise question on the theme parks board last week and the responses regarding cost sharing were all over the place. Every type of cost sharing you can imagine (remember to include tip for your driver when splitting the cost - most common amount I saw was $25) and some even required payment in advance which I think takes a lot of trust. I think the best tip I picked up was to exchange resort and cell phone info. That way, if someone has to cancel, it's no surprise.

Bottom line - since you're renting the boat, whatever you say goes. If the other party doesn't like it, they can rent their own boat.

I would take the $120, add the tip, and divide equally by the number of people on board. If people commit to going and then don't show up - it just makes things more expensive for the others.

I'm not one to nickel and dime, and would just split it by the family. I just couldn't be bothered with all the math. I guess my feeling is that you booked it so were willing to pay for the entire thing if you had to, so anything you save by someone else pitching in is icing. I also think that it all evens out in the end, you do this for someone and someone else will do something for you.

My opinion.
