Is it possible to book my home resort at 11 months and then prior to 7 months, split it into 2 reservations? The reason would be because we would want to try for Vero beach for the 1st few days but if it's not available, we would want to wait list and have it cancel one of the reservations. I would book it separately as two reservations to start on my own but the book category for my home resort generally books right at 11 months.

You can drop nights at the beginning or the end of your reservation. Currently you need to contact MS to do so.

At 11 months I would book it as two separate reservations so you can cancel the nights you want to change if it is available at 7 months without calling,

I've done this is the past but I've seen a couple of reports in the past few years to suggest it wasn't as easy to do as it once was.

This would be my suggestion as well, the only reason I'd approach it differently would be if it were something that might be difficult to book day 1 at 11 months out or if one were going to walk the reservation. The other alternative would be to reserve or wait list VB then just drop the days from the first reservation afterwards if you have enough points without borrowing.

thanks. do not have enough points to book trip and then waitlist on top of it at vero as we are borrowing for this trip. we are booking animal kingdom value at 11 months and during spring break. so if we book this as two reservations we risk not getting one part of it at 11 months. i think i will just see if MS will split it. If not, i'll see what i can do at 7 months on the phone. Unless someone can think up something creative.

For value that's likely the best option. If you try to reserve in 2 parts by waiting do do the portion that corresponds to the VB plan you risk not getting it. The other alternative is to keep an eye on the availability as you get close then the day before if VB is looking promising, drop the appropriate days at AKV and book at 8 am online. Once booked, I'd call MS and discuss with them. Tell them you want easy options to change to VB at the 7 month mark and to wait list if it's not available without risk of losing your planned AKV reservation. Or you could just make up your mind that you want to try something else those days anyway and book a different category at AKV then change to something else at 7 months out, VB if available.
