Spliting a Stay For the Dining Plan

Last time we used our DVC points, one could make two reservations and do the dining plan on one reservation and not on the other. However, there was a chance you'd have to change rooms. Then I thought I'd read that you could no longer do that. Can you still do this? Is there a minimum amount of days per reservation? Thanks!

I'm very curious about this also -
I already have a reservation(s) that is actually split to 3 resorts, due to a change in plans - we had the opportunity to move on property, from an off-site resort. If I could just get the meal plan for 1 or 2 of my reservations instead of all 3, that would be useful.

Thanks!

I believe as long as you are changing rooms, either from a room type (such as a studio to a one bedroom, even at same resort), or changing resorts, you can do dining just for one segment of the trip.

Do you have different reservation numbers for the different reservations?

Change types or resorts and you can.

You cannot stay in the same type room, and do it.

Thanks. I'm planning to be in the same resort and room type so I guess we can't do this. I apprecaite your help.

I don't see why not. We did something "similar" for different reasons two weeks ago. The party in the room was changing, so we had to split the reservation. We STILL had the DDP in both reservations ( which resulted in us getting twice the amount of resort mugs ), but I see no problem with what you're proposing.

They DID warn us we might get moved, but the night before checkout from the first reservation, we went to the front desk to let them know we'd like to keep that room, they told us no problem... so I would do that...

I don't see why not either....? As long as you have 2 separate reservations you should be able to do it. Hopefully someone with more experience/info will chime in on this...

DVC does not allow a continuous reservation at one resort, in the same room type, to be split into multiple reservations in order to get the dining plan for a portion of the stay. This was called "segmenting" and it was briefly allowed; however DVC put the kibosh on it last fall b/c of the extra work/problems it was causing.

The only way to get the DDP for a portion of your stay is to change room types (i.e. from a studio to a 1 BR)at the same resort, or to change resorts, referred to as a "split stay".

We are staying 7 nights at AKV in the same room and I asked them to separate my first night, they asked me why and I told them because I just wanted the DP for the first night and they said no problem. They just said that I may have to change rooms.

You were lucky, but you might not be so lucky after day 1 if you have to pack up and move.

We don't mind since we are getting there in the evening anyway so we just won't unpack but our pijamas in case we have to move,, but we will get the DDP for one day.

I guess my confusion comes from the fact that I had two separate reservations for my room BUT, it wasn't a change in room type now that I think of it. It was going from a points reservation to a cash reservation on the weekend. Luckily, we were able to stay in the same room (since it was the same room type) but we did have a separate reservation obviously. We were able to add the dining plan to one or both of them from what I recall but we don't get the value out of the plans so we didn't bother.

Hopefully you won't have to move. Please let us know how things work out - I would be interested in this in the future if we ever want to do the dining plan - slim chance, but you never know!

Thanks,
Terri

What the PP got was a fluke since DVC has already said they wouldn't be splitting reservations to get the dining plan for part of the trip. That perk has been lost.

We will see what happens and I sure will let you know just in case you also get a "fluke"
like the PP stated.
thanks
