As with most other things at WDW, there are pros and cons for both.
We are doing a split-stay later this month. We have not done one before.
From what I have read, it may be significantly easier if you have a car to use to transport your luggage. Otherwise, using Disney Resorts to transport your luggage may take longer than you expect.
We plan to use the Dining plan/ticket package for the second part of our stay. The first resort is room only.
We are coming with tickets that we have leftover from another visit. The tickets that we get with the package on this trip will not be activated. As long as you don't activate your tickets, you do not have to add the no-expiration option - and can add days at a later date or even transfer the tickets to someone else who is going later.
I am not sure if we'll use our resort change day as a park day or a pool day. We know we can check out of our first resort, check into the second at any time of day (if the room is not ready, they'll give you a key and a number to call to get the room assignment at a later time). We can have our swimsuits on when we check out of the first resort, check into the second and just head to the pool if the room is not ready. Or, we may just head head to the park that day.
You can pack a light "transfer" bag with what you might need at any time - and let Disney move the rest of your luggage for you.
The split stay will also allow us to use the
DDP for part of the stay and not for the rest - which is why I am thinking of using the DXDDP for that half.
Good luck with your decision and havea great time!
