Split stay--would you?

We are currently booked to stay at POFQ from 12/29-1/4. My son had his heart set on staying at wilderness lodge, but no dice. I figured out today that I could do a split stay of:
12/29-1/1 AKL
1/1-1/4 WL

My only concern is that my daughter has quite a bit of medical equipment that bell services will need to transfer for us.

Would you do it or just stick with POFQ? I've never stayed at a mod and I'm a little nervous. Lol

POFQ is a great resort and also very small, which is nice for getting around. You'll also save money. So, I would have no qualms about staying POFQ. If you think your son will be really bummed and you don't plan on returning in the near future, I don't think it would be too much of a hassle to do a split stay. If you're concerned about the handling of the medical equipment, you could always take a taxi with it yourself if it would fit.

I would go with split stay but I would taxi with everything important instead of Bell services. We had any easy transition for us and all but one of our bags from BC to Poly last trip... they did find the other bag within a couple hours, but still, you dont want to chance it. The bellman was just astounded one was missing, I dont think it happens often. In fact, at first they didnt believe us, until I showed him our tag from BC that said "5 pieces" on it.

I would stick with POFQ. Split stays are a hassle. If you decide to go with the split stay, I agree with the above poster to taxi all the important stuff.

If you choose to do the split, I'd take a taxi over to the 2nd hotel and take all the medical things with you. I think medical equipment is too important to leave to bell services (not that they have ever lost anything of ours when we transferred, but it can take a long time and I wouldn't want to chance it). One "con" on split stays is that you won't have a room during the day (in between check out and check in). A "pro" is that AKL and WL are just gorgeous during the holidays, and you won't have to go outside to get to the lobbies or dining.

Yeah taxis are out unfortunately because dd has a large non-folding wheelchair. I think I'll just keep stalking to see if WL opens up and maybe change over to AKL if not.

Hmmm... there are those huge taxi vans at WDW (we've been in several) if that would make a difference. I still would be concerned about giving anything that important over to bell services. We've given them our luggage and a case or two of water in the past and it took a long time to track down the case of water (it was lost, but they eventually found it) but that is at least something that is easily replaced. I hope you can find all of your days at the WL since that would be the easiest for you.

Can 1 person just take the taxi with the medical equipment over to WL while the others go ahead to the parks (or eat breakfast or whatever)? I actually would trust it with bell services, IF it is stuff you don't need to be time sensitive and/or if you have alternatives while waiting if something takes long. I feel like if you tell them what it is and how important it is to get over there then they'll make a point to be careful (obviously accidents happen). I have trusted them with my daughter's asthma meds/device but we also had a backup inhaler that we kept with us that could work in a pinch.

(And your daughter in your avatar looks almost identical to my son's good friend, such a cutie!)

If you don't mind taking a day (or part of) away from WDW activities I would take the split stay. I hope you can figure out an easy way to transport everything from one resort to the other. On our next WDW vacation I hope to do the same thing. We do take a day away from the parks and explore other parts of the World; so I would not have a problem taking a day away moving to a second resort.

But if it doesn't work out you can make this happen, you can't go wrong with POFQ! A pretty little resort with a short walk, bus, or boat ride away from POR.

Yeah taxis are out unfortunately because dd has a large non-folding wheelchair.

She doesn't need to be part of the equipment transfer, though.

The issue with having Bell Services move it is that they are on a schedule, and that schedule means that once you send stuff off with them, you will NOT have access to it until AFTER official checkin time.

So send an adult in a taxi with the important stuff, get it settled with Bell Services at WL (where you can get it back at any time...it won't be in transit between the resorts), and then have that adult meet the rest of the family wherever they are.

POFQ...you would need to request a first floor room, yes? Or do they have elevators? I'm not sure.

I like staying where I am, I like split stays. Just different kinds of trips. :)
