Split Stay with One Reservation on DDP... same Magic Band?

I couldn't get the flight I wanted for the day free dining begins, so my DH and I are flying in the night before. Since we won't get free dining for the one-night stay, we'll probably go to a value resort since it's just for one night.

Can/should we link the one-night reservation at a different resort to our current free-dining reservation? Is it possible that it will cause issues at the second resort (we know to check out before going to resort #2) or with our free dining? Can anyone speak to this? I just want everything to go as smoothly as possible.

Thanks!

By default this will go smoothly. If it glitches then you might have issues. Just assume it will go as planned.

This is two reservations and you can't have them as one. You could get two sets of magic bands if you want, but you don't have to.

You wouldn't be linking the first reservation to the second reservation. You would simply be linking your first reservation to your MDE account. It won't affect your second reservation.

If I link the first reservation to the second one, would we have the same Magic Bands? I'm just terrified of something glitching, but I'm sure people must do this all the time, right?

you can also decline the magic bands of the room only reservation, and do order the magic bands for the second reservation, if you decide you really want all the magic bands, you don't need to link the first to the second, wait until you check in on the reservation with FD get the new ones and put away your first set of MB

MBs just link to your MDE account - not to a particular onsite resort reservation. After you link your resort reservation in MDE, you'll see a place to customize your MBs. When you get to that page, you can choose to decline, person by person.
For example, if you have 10 onsite hotel stays at Disney this month, you could just decline 9 of them (let's say all but the first MBs). Those "first trip" MBs would (hopefully) open the door at all 10 of your resort stays. We've used MBs from 2 years prior without problem.

You don't and can't link the reservations to each other.

The reservations will be on your MDE and therefore will be hooked up to all MBs you might have. It's all very simple, really.

Why are you *terrified* of a glitch? Nothing bad happens. And if something annoying happens it's all easily fixed.

I guess that's true. I think I'm just overthinking it and remembering all of the glitches that happened when Magic Bands were new. I suppose all of that is worked out now.

Fwiw we've never had any of the glitches happen. Not everyone was hit by them even when it was at its worst.

People have even reported that you don't have to be careful with checkout/in stuff anymore. For me it's easy enough to either do the checkout process OR make sure it's after official checkout time before heading to the next resort anyway (we like to get the max value out of the first resort lol), so I'm sure we'll naturally continue that, but people have said you don't have to.

We almost always do split stays and most of the time I use the same MB for the whole trip. I do check out from resort #1 but I do it on the phone, I just call the front desk (which I know is not really the front desk) and tell them I'm checking out then move over to resort #2 and go to the front desk and check in. The only time I don't go to the front desk and check in is if I've already received the room ready text, which rarely happens since I tend to move to resort #2 around 7 or 8 am. I just let them know I'm there, sometimes if they know you are there they will find a room a little faster.
