Need some help from all you knowledgeable people please! Let me try to make sense of this for you! So we have a split stay booked coming up. My mother won’t be joining us until the second day so I have it booked as 2 separate reservations before moving on to our next resort, being a third reservation. So the first 2 reservations are booked separate so that my mother can have magical express access, and all the other on site amnesties day 1. My questions... 1 will we be able to stay in the same room for both bookings at our first stay as long as they are same category rooms? And in addition we will have the meal plan, will our credits expire when we “check out” from day 1 and “check in” day 2? I understand they expire at midnight the next day but I don’t understand what happens to credits when moving from 1 plan to the next? TIA!

You can have a reservation with your mom on it and do a DME reservation for her arrival on the second day. You will have to check out of resort 1 and have resort 2 restore your unused meal credits when you check in. Have resort 1 print you your DDP entitlements and take it to resort 2.

Check with MS as they might link your two reservations at the same resort. Then you have the dining plan for both reservations for your full stay at the resort. Technically, DVC has said in the past that you cannot stay in the same villa in the same resort and only get the dining plan for one of the reservations.

Assuming it works as you plan and you get dining for all stays, each would stand on it's own and the credits for each would expire at MN on the check out day That's applicable to that stay. I don't believe there's any way to give yourself a good chance of staying in the same room and to avoid the risk of combining, assuming the same room type. You could potentially if you were going from a smaller to larger unti(or vice versa) with a 2 BR lockoff. And what's worse, they will cancel your DP if they combine and they could do it in such a way that you'd lose the option.

So you'd have 3 sets of credits, each functioning independently. As you have it now you'd have your credits from the one night expiring on the following day at MN. On that day you'd also have your credits from you "second stay" so you'd have 2 sets of credits active on that day ONCE YOU CHECK IN TO FOR THE SECOND RESERVATION. The same thing would happen on the change from one resort to the second for your THIRD stay. That can create issues including that you can't access both sets on one magic band (or use MB for 2 rooms at the same time for that matter), the credits sometimes get messed up, sometimes they take the wrong credits, instead of the ones that would expire.

Personally I wouldn't fool with it for this situation for the difference in cost of one person for one day. I'd just combine and get the credits for all applicable days and make sure I use the old credits on the day you change resorts. Or I might get the DP for one portion and not the other. You didn't specific your trip specifics but the credits from the first portion (if combined) would cover you through MN on the day you change to the different resort and most people leave during the morning early afternoon on departure day. So you'd only lose DP options on a part of your last segment. Or if you got the DP for the second portion only and check in on the APP or go early to the FD, the credits will be good from then.

Here's what we often do, esp if we have the DP. We are 4 hrs away so we leave after work and stay overnight about an hour away, we then get there early and use the credits for breakfast or an early lunch. On departure day we make sure we do either breakfast or an early lunch as well.
