I just wanted to share my experience today because it was an issue I hadn't encountered with past split stays! I'm hoping this will help others not make the same mistakes I made!
Our situation:
We are traveling with another family and they are DVC members, so I rented DVC points to be at the same resort as them. Unfortunately, because of the time of year (Jan 1-6...holidays & marathon), there wasn't availability for our entire stay, so for the last two nights, my DD and I are staying at POFQ.
When I booked the two nights at POFQ (Jan 4-6), I went ahead and purchased our tickets as part of a package (5 days of tickets, even though only staying at POFQ for 2 days). The family I am traveling with is staying all 5 nights at the DVC resort.
This morning was our "60 days" out, so I go on to book all of our FP+ (my family and theirs) and it won't allow me to book FP+ for me and DD, only for them. Turns out, because the tickets were purchased as part of a package, they are attached to our 2nd stay...meaning, no FP+ for us for our first 3 days because our tickets wouldn't be valid in the computer system until Jan 4th!! It would not have been a problem if the tickets were not attached to the 2nd reservation. If they were attached to the first reservation, they are good for 14 days, so not a problem...if they were just stand alone tickets purchased with two room only reservations, also not a problem as they would recognize the first stay and open up our ticket window.
Moral of the story: If you are doing a split-stay...make sure either your tickets are attached to your first hotel reservation (if doing a package) OR just purchase your rooms as room-only reservations and then purchase your tickets separately!
We were able to get it squared away, but it took multiple phone calls (first CM said we'd have to cancel and re-book...and the only availability for the 4-6 right now is like $500+ per night). Finally got a CM that was able to just drop the tickets that were on the package and then went in and purchased tickets separately.
