split stay specialist help needed!

We have been to Disney many times, but want to try a split stay. We are thinking of doing the Contemporary for our first two nights, pay for dining, and book through Disney directly. We then may rent Disney Vacation points and try to stay at Boardwalk Villas, again, we would buy dining for this reservation too. Just to complicate matters, I am thinking of buying tickets through Undercover tourist for the entire trip. I also have a hotel reservation made with the free dining offer, and have made many dining reservations. Would I lose these dining reservations if I cancelled the free dining reservation? How would magic bands work? This may be too complicated to try....

You shouldn't lose the ADRs if you cancel the free dining reservation. The dining reservation is separate from the room reservation.

Just FYI: Your post is a bit confusing when you talk about "buying" free dining. If you get free dining as part of a package, you have to get tickets as part of the same package, in order to get free dining. If you're paying for the dining plan, you can book a ticketless package and get your tickets from Undercover Tourist, etc.

Each reservation is a separate reservation, so if you have extra reservations, you'll get extra magic bands. We have an 8/1 split this year, because our resort had no rooms available to add on the last night. We'll get a second set of magic bands for that night. My understanding is, however, that both sets of bands will work for everything.

You will not lose your dining reservations...as a matter of fact, even if you cancelled your resort reservations altogether, you'd have to also cancel your dining reservations seperately.

You can't get free dining when you are renting DVC points. You can purchase a dining plan with that reservation, but you can't get free dining.

It doesn't have to be complicated. It's just two reservations and a little juggling.

Yes, you can buy tickets from Undercover Tourist for your whole trip. You would then book a "ticketless" package for CR (room and dining only) by calling WDW. If available, you could then rent points for your BWV stay and add dining to that (you cannot buy "free dining" for this, but I think this was just a typo in your post). When you cancel your current free dining reservation, you will not lose your dining reservations. Since you have two resort reservations, you will be sent two sets of Magic Bands which you can use interchangeably throughout your stay. If you are using DME, just make sure to add your incoming flight to your CR reservation and your outbound flight to your BWV reservation.

Thanks for the responses. I edited my original post as it was a typo when I said I wanted to buy free dining.. Basically I would give up my free dining reservation I have and do a split stay, paying for dining...How do I go about linking my undercover tourist tickets to both sets of my magic bands?

When you get your tickets from Undercover Tourist, you simply enter the ticket numbers in MDE, and they'll link to everything.
