So we are planning 9 nights for october 2018 and thinking of maybe doing a split stay but have some questions.
1. Definitely staying at POFQ for 5 nights.
2. What would be your 2nd choice if doing a value.
3. Would you stay at the value first then the moderate?
4. Do I need to book 2 completely different reservations
5. How do I purchase park tickets?
6. They will transfer all our belongings/suitcases right?

What other things do I need to know

1. Good to know.
2. I would pick Pop Century, which has dedicated bus service. Upon arrival, ask if you've been placed in a renovated room, and if you haven't, ask if they can put you in one.
3. Yes, absolutely you want to upgrade your resort experience during the trip, rather than downgrade it.
4. Yes.
5. You can buy tickets separately, and then link them to your MDE account. You will be able to do FP+ at 60 days for both resorts, using just that one set of tickets. You only need to get Magic Bands for the first resort. When you arrive at the second resort, your ticket info stays intact, & they just switch over your resort info on your Magic Band.
6. Yes, they will do that free of charge, but you should give them a few dollars as a tip.
7. It's not hard at all.

Always, always, always upgrade not downgrade. I would recommend doing more stuff outside of the resort during the value portion and plan at least one off-day during the POFQ portion. It's an absolutely wonderful resort and you can pool hop to any of the Riverside pools.

One word of warning: luggage transfer is not fast always. My last split-stay I didn't get my bags until after 5. Make sure you have everything you need for the day out of your bags.

I agree that you should stay in the value (Pop is a great suggestion) and then move to the mod. You can purchase tickets separately if you'd like (if you purchase from a third-party re-seller, like Undercover Tourist, you may save some money) or you can book your first reservation as a package with tickets that will cover both resort stays. This will then give you the package components for your first stay if you are interested (they haven't been released yet, but typically include some coupons and free mini-golf). If you buy tickets separately, you will actually link them to your MDE account, which I think the PP meant to say. Those tickets can then be accessed by any MB that is linked to your MDE account.

That's right. I'll reword that bit about linking.

I would stay at the value resort first-Pop would be my choice. Then move to moderate. Yes, you have to book 2 separate res. If you're booking tickets thru Disney book the first reservation as a package with tickets for length of stay, and second res as a room only.
If you decide to get tickets from an outside source such as Undercover Tourist you would book both rooms as room only. Link ticket to MDE.

Resort will transfer luggage, but I prefer to get a cab and take my luggage to next resort and do early check in. If room isn't ready just store luggage with Bell Service. At least you know your luggage will be there when you want it.
