I called today to see about splitting our 9 day reservation (on hold not confirmed) between POR and CSR. We are doing Magic your way plus dining (Going in October so paying for dining - its not free).

I was told the only way they could do this with a package is to book two reservations, and the second one must contain at least one ticket. This will obivoulsly cost more as I am paying for a second base ticket (for everyone in my group).

Has anyone successfully split their stay on a package, without inclurring the cost of a second base ticket? It seems like they should be able to override this, but CM said the only way to book the dining is to have a ticket for each stay/package.

I first called on my own thru reservations and just inquired about doing the split. Didn't like the answe,r so I had my TA (AAA) call and she was told the same thing. Anyone know a way around this?

If you want to keep the dining package for the entire stay, I don't think there is any way around it. You can always buy the base tickets then save them for later use. But I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.

Nope, No way around it! Sorry!

You could always use the tickets at a later time.

You could do the second (or first) half of your stay without the dining plan.

You could book your second half (or first) renting from DVC member for a DVC resort. DVC rentors/members are allowed to buy dining package without having to buy tickets.

Good luck!

When we had a split stay I had the dining plan for the first part of our trip and paid OOP for the second part. We planned the least expensive meals for when we were paying OOP.

That is what the package is, the Magic Your Way Package with Dining and it requires at least a one day base ticket with each reservation.
So your choices are to not split your stay, to only get the DDP with one reservations or to buy an additional 1 day base ticket for everyone in your party and get the DDP with each reservation.
Good Luck with your decision.

Each stay at a different resort is a separate reservation - there is no way to carry over on package to a second resort. If you book a package at one resort, but don't want to purchase another ticket for the second resort, you could book a room only reservation at the second resort. This would mean you would not be able to get DDP (have to purchase a MYW package to get DDP unless you are a DVC member staying at a DVC resort on points).
I guess you have to balance your cost savings by using DDP against the cost of the ticket with the MYW package...as someone else pointed out, if you arrange your dining so you pay OOP for the less expensive places and use DDP for the pricier places, I think you could be quite happy if you have a package for the first resort and a room only for the second. You would have access to your dining credits for that first day at the second resort (the credits are good until midnight of check out day). Actually we found there is so much food using DDP we were happy to take a break after only a few days. YMMV

.. Anyone know a way around this?
No. Officially, there is no such thing as a spilt stay. You are actually asking for two separate trips defined under the requirements of a package and plan. You have select a package with the dining plan, so each package (reservation) requires a three night stay with a park ticket.
