Split Stay Questions

We are kicking around the idea of a split stay at either Port Orleans/Poly or Beach Club/Poly. Splitting would save around $800 if we chose Port Orleans, $350 if Beach Club (as opposed to entire stay at Poly). Questions are:

1. For a split stay, does Disney deliver your luggage from point A (say Port Orleans) to point B (Poly)?

2. Any reasons NOT to do a split stay?

Thanks in advance

Yes, You just tell bell services you are moving to a different resort and would like your bags transfered. They will tag your bags and give you a numbered claim ticket. (Note: Resort Transfers occur between 3-4 pm so if that does not work for you i suggest taking a cab and transferring your luggage yourself). Typically we do the express check out of the old resort, spend the day at the parks and check into the new resort between 1:00 and 2:00 to avoid the check-in lines ... if your room isn't ready they will still check you in and either call your cell phone or text you your room number when ready. We typically explore the new resort if our room isnt ready. Once you are checked in at the new resort and it's after 3-4 you can call bell services from the resort, give them your clain ticket nuber and they will deliver your luggage to your room.

I love split stays

Reasons not to do a split stay?

1. We tried it once and didn't love it - I am a nut and don't feel "settled" until my room is unpacked and organized for our stay. It made me crazy living out of a suitcase for 3 days. Then when we got to our second resort and unpacked, I felt like my vacation was too short.:confused3:laughing:

2. Aside from personal preference, the only possible downside to a split stay is that it makes no financial sense if you want the Dining plan for your entire vacation.

:)

I am glad you posted this as we are thinking of doing split stay next January. We want to do Beach Club/Poly. Since we have stayed at Poly 2 times and love it we want to split our time. We have never tried Beach Club but the kids are older now and we will get to spend some time at Epcot. They are 14 and 10 and I think the Epcot resort will be a nice change for a few days.

Wow, all the rage lately is BC/Poly!!

We were thinking about a split stay, but am hoping for free dining in August, so we'll stick with our love, the only and only, BC!!

On the luggage side of your question....Disney will move your luggage for you.

A couple of years ago we landed late at night so we stayed the first night at Pop Century before moving over to the Grand Floridian for the rest of our trip (thank you mom and dad!!). I think we either left the bags outside the room or left them just inside the room (can't remember) and then we went off to the parks for the day. When we checked into the new hotel, our luggage was already there! They made it very convenient.

But you will definitely need to arrange the bag transfer with the first hotel that you need the bags moved.

I'll be following this thread as well.... we are doing a split stay in May/June between POR & BC.

Another luggage question. Our split stay is CBR & the Swan. Will they still transfer our luggage?

We've done two split stays, and though we had one harrowing experience with luggage during the first, I would definitely recommend it. Our second trip, our luggage was moved seamlessly, and in both trips, we loved getting the feel of two completely different resorts. I think that may be one of the greatest things about staying at Disney, how each hotel is like its own culture, its own world. Splits are awesome!

I don't think so. I'd get a cab for that transfer.

OP, some people just don't want the hassle, or even the perceived hassle, of packing up, moving, unpacking again. Some people want to settle in and not move their stuff from the room until it's time to go home.

I personally like seeing as many resorts as I can, and I have no patience, so it's good for me to split things up.

Some people use one suitcase for clothes for the first part, and a second one for the next part...in my family we're too picky to make absolute decisions on what we'll want to wear in the future to do that. So...we've gotten totally unpacked for one part, then when it's time to move get packed up, move, and once in the next room get totally unpacked and settled in again. For ME it makes it feel like we're there longer; for others it would, or they worry it would, make it feel like a *shorter* stay.

Our moves are made easier b/c we've rented a car for our stays....

I'm all about saving money where I can, so I'd go for the POR/Poly split to save $800. You can use that money elsewhere on your trip;)

Thanks for all the feedback. We've never done a split trip before, but doing so will allow to try some different resorts. Seems like a bit of a hassle to have to move, but not too bad.

$800 is a significant difference, huh?

I'd look at that as a good chunk of your next trip paid.:lmao: :lmao:

My husband and I decided on the split stay because we are having a long trip....but it also will "feel" like two different vacations, KWIM? I can't wait!

Instead of creating a new threal on split stays, let me ask an additional split stay question here....

I am doing a split day for the first time in two weeks. From Carribean Beach on cash to Saratoga Springs on DVC points.

My question is... is there any way to avoid having to go to a check in at SSR just getting the new room number via text message and using the CBR key card in the SSR door. I know I am being selfish, but we usually go commando in the parks and I hate to have to go to check-in late at night at SSR when we will all be pooped. My fear is the room will be out in the Paddock hinterland and we will have quite a walk to the room. Then all I will hear about how dumb it was to do a split stay!
