We are planning a split stay at the World. The first 2 nights would be at one resort without tickets and without going to the parks and then we are planning of moving to another resort with tickets and dining plan. Now my questions:
- I have heard that Disney does transfer your luggage if you are changing from one Disney resort to another. Is this true?
- And is it also true that that we don't have to check in a the second resort? (only key pick up?)

Thank you for your help. :)

Yes Disney will transfer your bags to another resort if its a Disney resort and you will still need to check in at new resort. Your bags will arrive in late afternoon at bell services.

Yes, you can ask Disney to transfer your bags to your new resort. Just call bell services to collect your bags (or drop them at the bell services desk), let them know where you want them transferred to and they will be there by late afternoon. Don't forget to tip the bell services staff at either end.

As the PP stated, you will need to still check in at your new resort.
