Split Stay Question

So I watching the split stay DVC show and one question I wasn't clear on was this:

If I want to book a split stay at 2 resorts, neither of which is my home resort, do I have to wait until 7 months from the start of the 2nd resort to book? I kind of assume yes, so if that is the case, how would suggest handling that? I guess what I'm asking is there a particular strategy to have a better chance at getting the resort you want for the days you want?

Thanks!

Yes.

If you are booking home resort and then want to do that, book the home resort in two segments. There is no other great strategy save luck.

You can book the first resort of the split stay at 7 mo from the start of that stay. You then have to wait until 7 mo from the first day at the second resort to book that one.

Think of a split stay as simply back to back reservations. So, the 7 month rule will apply to each one.

If you go in knowing that is your plan, as mentioned, book your original reservation at your home resort in two reservations so that you can modify each one at the 7 month mark..unless you’ll have enough points to book first part of the 7 month booking without canceling the other nights first.

OK, cool. One more question. Let's say I there is a resort I really want for the 2nd part of the trip, don't really care where the 1st part is. Should I book the 2nd resort for the full 7 days, then when I get to the day I want to switch to it, then modify that to just the 2nd part and add another res to the front end? Assuming of course there is availability.

That is certainly a good way to do it and end up with what you want, You then simply modify and drop the days on the front end and then book a new reservation for the first part
