Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with a split stay quandry.

Found free dining for the second half of our trip at a deluxe, so we want to book it for 5 nights and then stay at a value "room only" for the first half (3 nights)

My question is if we purchase the 9 day park tickets with the deluxe pkg, will we be able to link that to the value resort stay? We're trying to avoid buying park tickets with each stay, because it is so much more expensive.

So the 9 day park tickets are purchased for the deluxe resort that we're staying at the SECOND half of the trip. Can we use them for the first half as well? Hope this makes sense, lol.

Yes, you'll be able to pick up the package tickets three days early at Guest Relations.

You can pick up resort package tickets up to 3 days prior to check-in. You have to visit a Park Guest Relations facility at one of the four theme parks, or one of 2 locations at DTD. Have your resort package info and photo id with you.

My understanding is you can't link the package tickets in any way to your Value stay until you visit Guest Relations to pick up the tickets. That makes FP+ advance booking unavailable for the Value stay. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. You have another choice of buying 9-day tickets to go with your Value stay. Then book Free Dining stay with minimum-required 2-day PH (or WP) tickets. Visit Guest Relations to prioritize your two tickets so that the 9-day tickets are used first. The 2-day tickets will remain good to use for another visit, when you can upgrade them to # of park days you really need.

They make free dining and split stays very difficult if the free dining isn't your first stay of a split. Is there any way to reverse plans and do free dining first?

Yes I finally called and he said that I couldn't use the park tickets until I checked into the deluxe. Don't really know if that's true or if he's just trying to get me to but two separate tickets. I usually trust the people on Disboards more that the people at Disney for this information, lol.

The Disney phone reps you speak to are ALL trained to say that you cannot use resort package tickets before your package begins. However, WDW has a policy in place, as posted above, which allows early package ticket pick-up at Guest Relations up to 3 days before resort check-in. This causes confusion for the person inquiring.

DisBoard's Cheshire Figment, who was a WDW ticket expert, wrote a comprehensive ticket sticky all about WDW Tickets. It's available in archives, but it's not current in some regards. However, his post about early package ticket pick-up is still valid.

I. Picking up Package Tickets Prior To Start Of Package

In cases where Walt Disney World Resort Guests would like to begin using their Package Tickets prior to the day of check-in (up to three days in advance), the Guests will be directed to visit any Theme Park or DTD Guest Relations location and request Early Ticket Pick-Up. (Note this cannot be done at a water park.)

It is only valid for people with packages at a Walt Disney World owned and operated Resort. You can be staying off-property at the time you pick up the tickets. Note that if you have a package which includes Dining, although you can pick up your tickets early you cannot get access to the Dining until you have actually checked in to your Resort.

Note that since August 2011 the Call Centers have been telling Guests this cannot be done. However it is still a valid procedure and can be done with no problem at Park Guest Relations Windows.

As usual, the disboarders were correct, lol.

It's too bad they have to operate that way. I told him I'd like to book a value resort ON Disney property before the deluxe stay, but even that isn't enough.

Thanks for everyone's input! It's helped us out a lot.

Ok, I have one more question. If I go ahead and split the stay is there a way to use the Magical Express to and from airport or will that be an issue since we'll be arriving at one resort and leaving from another?

You'll be fine. Call reservations or call ME directly and give them your arrival flight for your first reservation and your departure flight on your second reservation. It's super easy.
