Split stay - overthinking it?

Hi friends,
I had Hyatt points burning a hole in my pocket and so we're currently set for a December 2night/3 night split between Hyatt Regency OC and GCH club. We haven't split a stay before and I'd like to think through how to handle the transfer day.
Would you recommend an extra-early check in at the GCH to drop bags and be able to get to the gates for EE? Too ambitious?
Any issues or considerations we should keep in mind?
Thanks!

Not a fan of splits stays but to not waste a day stuck on a timeline I would check out of departure hotel first thing AM then head to GCH and drop bags...that way you can head back to CGH at your leisure once room is ready.

Now if you wanna get up early enough to also make EE, that is your call but the time you would loose going back to check out/in mid day is not worth the hassle IMO vs doing the switch first thing.

Do you even have to check in to just have them hold on to your bags? That way you dont pay more to check in super early and have plenty of time. Most Anaheim hotels will let you do that as long as you're staying there that night.

I love split stays. One time we rope dropped DCA, then went back to the hotel around 10am to pack and check in at DLH. That worked out well. Another time we did it first thing in the morning, but not for EE.

They will hold your bags at GCH no matter how early you get over there, so if you are an early enough riser and want to try for early entry you could do that. On the other hand, if your switch day is right in the middle of your trip it might be a good morning to sleep in until 7 or 8 and then do the switch. Any way you do it will be great. Have a fun trip!

We have done split stays numerous times from good neighbor hotels. You will be eligible for onsite hotel guest Early Entry on the day of your check-in to GCH. If you are interested in EE/rope drop on the transition day, I would recommend keeping your room at the Hyatt and asking for a late checkout. Even with a standard 11:00 AM checkout you will get to experience the morning with the lowest wait times and you can use the transition time between hotels to stack LL reservations (assuming you have Genie+). You do not need a physical GCH hotel room key to access EE on the morning of your check in to GCH, but you will need to check in to GCH online and have the ability to show your GCH reservation to the cast members at the EE checkpoint (either a screenshot of the reservation details or link the reservation in your Disneyland App). Have a great trip.

Thanks so much, everyone!

Jawwdoc, I particularly like your idea of requesting a late checkout to avoid the bag drop conundrum while maintaining the advantage of the early day.

Now to determine if the Hyatt Regency shuttle can get us there in time for EE or if we need to get creative and possibly find a bus line or other alternative... I don't think I want our 6 and 8 year old kiddos to start their day with that walk. :)
