Split stay input

Hi everyone! We are staying DVC for the first time in January. Our current reservation is for 8 nights at the Poly, our home resort. I am thinking of trying a split stay instead...2 nights BW and 6 nights Poly. My DH is open to this, but also a little worried that the move between resorts will take up too much of our time. I think it would be really fun to check out other resorts, and BW seems like a great place to start. From what I have read on here, the transfer is relatively easy. We are just now 7 months out, so I'm thinking I should get a move on if we're going to make changes.

Any split stay input or advice would be appreciated, especially regarding the transitions and moving our luggage/groceries. Also, has anyone regretted doing a split stay with 8 or so nights (did it seem to cut too much into the trip)?

Thanks!!!

It's very easy. Assuming you don't have a car, just pack up your stuff - keeping the fridge/freezer items packed separately and labeled - drop off at bell services (or call for bell services to your room).

Your bags will be available at the next resort after 4pm by calling or stopping by bell services.

It's really easy. We love split stays, it's easier for us to pack up and transfer luggage in the morning than to fight the transportation at the end of a long day.

Stay at BW when you are doing Epcot/DHS of course, drop your bags at bell services and head to MK. The boat back to your room will be much nicer than the bus to BW!

I'm not that big into changing resorts unless it's a longer visit ( like 10 days or more)
That being said, both of the DVC resorts ur choosing are equally great. And it's nice to try something new.
The transfer between resorts is pretty seamless but you ll still be packing it all up, then unpacking it all ... and if ur an organized traveler, that and setting it all up with food stuff may not be worth it for 2-3 nights.
I'd likely stay put
Enjoy... whatever u choose!

We are planning a split stay in March. First three days at VWL & last six at BCV. We will pack a smaller bag for the first three days so we don't have to drag the larger bag in until BCV. We are driving so that will be easy. Even if we weren't I would still probably split up our belongings so we aren't digging in two suitcases to find what we need. We plan to wait until our 2nd checkin to get our groceries. If Disney transports your belongings they do have coolers at each resort to put your cold items in. It may make a difference when you are booking your ADRs, since it is two separate check-in dates.

I do split stays on just about every visit and mine are never longer than 7 days, 6 nights. It's usually 2 nights then the rest however many nights at the second resort. We drive so I just take two bags but it really doesn't take that much time. We are early risers (well I am) we pack the night before, get up do whatever we are going to do, call and check out and head over to resort #2. We are usually there around 8, I go to the front desk and check in and we head off to a park.

We are hooked on split stays now. Especially when one is an EPCOT resort and one a MK resort. It makes it so easy when going to parks. It is so easy and trust me we always have a lot of luggage. Once we had 22 pieces being moved including 2 cases of water. They take all your refrigerator stuff and keep it cold so nothing gets ruined.

We do it every trip lately. We love the Poly and love to make more nights there. Last summer we stayed 15 days and did a 3 resort split. The first resort we were 6 people and then for the next two we were a party of 10. No problems at all.

I might do 3 nights and 5 nights - but either way do it. Enjoy!

I think 8 nights is a perfect length for a split. I agree with the PP who suggested 3 and 5 nights though, as 2 nights is not a lot of time to really enjoy the resort. We LOVE BWV. Love the theming, the Boardwalk, the rooms and the proximity to EP and DHS. An EP/MK resort split is perfection to us!

In terms of transferring to your next resort, it's very simple. Call bell services when your bags are packed and ready to go. They will tag your bags and transfer them to the Poly. You can then go about your day as planned and head to the Poly whenever you are ready. Your luggage should be at Poly by late afternoon. We typically go to a park and then go to our next resort when we are done. By then, our room is ready and our bags are there. It's super easy!

If you're unsure, I recommend keeping it at only one resort. This is coming from someone who has done multiple split stays (see my signature). But we do them only for a specific purpose at a specific time of year: for use of the different resorts' theme pools in summer.

Without a specific reason like that, I personally wouldn't do a split stay. It's not too hard to do a split stay, but it does disrupt the trip a bit. From my perspective, it's a better experience to really get settled into a resort & enjoy it as a home away from home for the whole trip.

Thanks for everyone's input! It helps to hear from others who have done it before. We are still up in the air about what to do. My mom and her friends are staying at the Poly and checking in the day we would transfer to the Poly. If it weren't for this, we would definitely do the 3/5 split. It seems like doing 2 nights might not be worth it. Even if we don't do the split this stay, we are definitely going to do one the following year when we have more flexibility. Thanks again!

We are going to try a split stay next August 2018. I have done 2 but with out a DH and kids so it will be interesting! When I did them alone-one was a,one and one was with my cousin, I don't recall any issues.

We are going for 12 days and will spend our first 5 nights/6 days at the the BC and the 6 nights/7 days at the Poly (it doesn't add up right but it will be 11 nights/12 days). I love the Poly and can't imagine being at Disney by not staying there, I have a few times and I get home sick so it's a need. But we need a change and I will gladly save a few bucks by staying at the BC for part of the stay.

We actually just decided on the split on Sunday so I read the boards vs asking the same questions and getting snarky answers "it's been asked a million times, use the search function" and found out that our mugs will still be good at both resorts and if I get a 6 day PH it will be good at both resorts.

I am either going to do a DVC room at the BC or a regular room with a hopeful magical rate, park tickets with the hopeful free water park day. And then hopefully a studio at the Poly.

I am excited, my kids saw the pool at the BC and their eyes lit up. My son said "when we get to the Poly, the pool will be boring." Oh well...

We did a Poly/BC split and my kids found the Poly pool to be boring and we hadn't even been at the BC yet. It really was an awesome split stay. Best of both worlds.

We are doing the reverse, BC first then Poly. They have been tothe Poly pool, before the new kiddie area was built. My oldest will be 17 and she really isn't into the pool but liked the waterslide (she was 12 when we went last) but they know the view from the pool is the important thing for me. I just can't swap it the other way around, it would be too depressing.

Hopefully this split will be the first of many Poly/BC splits.

My opinion? Please don't make me do it. Please

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Okay, it might work if you don't have much stuff. And if you don't move in to the hotel.

Other wise? For us, it was a nightmare. And we have a car.

Maybe I just pack too much. Maybe I really move in. Regardless, I really, really, hate split stays.
