Split stay how many nights should we stay at Universal?

My 15 DS is getting bored with the rides at Disney, so we thought we'd try a split stay between Disney & Universal. We've never been to Universal. About how many days should we dedicate to their two parks? We plan on going the 1st or 2nd week of June.

I like 3 nights. Anything shorter than that I find too little.

We did 4 nights at the Portofino (It was our first time at US/IOA). If I do it again, I agree, 3 nights would be good and what we would do if coming again. We went end of August/beginning of Sept., DS is 13, well just shy of 14 and he loved US/IOA and wants to make next year a Disney and US/IOA vacation.

I would stay at Disney first though, then come over to Universal as you will be spoiled with the Express Pass and not want to face queue`s after using that.

The Universal hotels are all lovely, try and spend some time in whichever resort you choose, which you will be able to as they are all so close to the parks if you fancy a break in the middle of the day.

Staying at Universal is a very relaxing way to do the parks.....you`ll love it

They'd probably enjoy the Hard Rock. It has a great pool and pool slide and is within very close proximity to both parks.

Hard Rock!...Our teens and tweens all love it...LOVE IT!!!
3 nights usually works OK for us, but 4 is better, especially with weather issues or extra-packed parks.

They'll have a blast!

i'm the lone wolf out.
i stay for 8 and would like to stay more, which i will next year.




but if you are a newbie for the darkside, 4 nights would be great.
you'll have time to also spend at city walk and the hotels.

mini golf should be ready next year.

YES.

Though it's not as simple if you've been staying at a villa at WDW...we came from Old Key West last December and felt like our Royal Pacific room was a closet!



Remember that you are *encouraged* to pool hop at Universal resorts, so don't make the pool the be all end all part of the decision. Though, of course, it's fabulous to be close to your fave pool.

We hopped to HRH's pool on our September trip (we stayed at Portofino to get a slightly bigger room), and while DS loved the slide and would have stayed there for years, you couldn't *swim* because the pool is really meant for lounging in with your boozey beverage, looking attractive while listening to music. If you swim you risk skinning your knees on the bottom, it's that shallow. (except for in the slide part, but you have to get out of that area immediately after you've come down the slide!)

it's a decent size, better than the size of the standard rooms.

i go solo and also book king suites.
i like the extra room.




to piggyback on what bumber stated, do not pick the hotel for the pool.

i pick rph for the many choices of food places and lobby.
i have pool hopped many a times and you are treated very well no matter which hotel you are staying at.
