I am hoping to run the Half Marathon in November. Assuming the course is the same I would love to stay in the Epcot area for the weekend so the family can come watch the run. We have two little ones in daycare so have a certain budget for resorts.

Arrival will be at Dolphin resort and the rest of the stay will be at POFQ. I’m having a hard time deciding how many nights to do at each. We will be there 7 or 8 nights(not sure until I see flight schedules)

Right now I have 2 nights planned at Dolphin. 6 at FQ. Should I add another at Dolphin to enjoy the boardwalk area or move over to FQ so we can settle in for our stay?

We've done two split stays, and have always done a minimum of three nights at each resort. For me, two nights just seems too short. I personally would do 3 at Dolphin and the rest at POFQ. That would give you some time to enjoy the Boardwalk and Epcot area.

I agree with the others. We never do less than 3 nights at any resort when doing a split stay. Otherwise, I feel like you can't fully enjoy the resort.

I do split stays just about every trip. Normally it's one or two nights at a value or moderate then the rest of the trip (anywhere from 3 to 5 more days) at an Epcot deluxe, including Swan/Dolphin. Easy to do but I always start at the lower end resort then bump up to the higher at the end of the trip.

If I’m doing a split stay I always end in the higher level resort, but in your case because of the run I can understand why you need to do it in reverse.
I also agree with 3 days at Dolphin. With 2 days you’ll just feel like you’re checking in and out.

This trip we are doing our first split stay: 2 nights at a monorail hotel, and 4 nights at an Epcot. I think 2 days is enough to cover our basics at AK and MK, and 2-3 days for HS and Epcot with one day to wander. The youngest person in my party will be 9 this trip and none of the kids have much interest in MK past the Mountain Range's thrill rides. They'll be fine ignoring DinoLand and probably want to concentrate on Africa, Asia and Pandora. Since we'll be essentially 3 adults and 2 children, it will be easy for us to split up on the last park day and make decisions on the spur.

For my way of thinking there is no right or wrong way...just what best fits your wants and needs:).
