Split stay hotel costs?

I will be coming down for a conference and will be staying at the Swan and Dolphin while the conference is going on. I plan on staying a few days after with the family and was going to switch to another resort so that I could take advantage of Magic Express and enjoy a Disney hotel for a couple of days.

Problem is, when I look at prices for just the following two days after the conference, they are extremely high and out of stock. But when I search for the entire week, prices are reasonable and everything is in stock. How is everyone doing a split stay and getting credit for staying the full week. It would be cheaper to book the entire week at both places instead of just a couple night. ~300 per night for the week vs ~2000 a night for Thursday and Friday.

Are you sure your looking at the same room type because a difference from $300/night to $2,000/night sounds like a different room category entirely. Or possibly you added tickets/dining to one package and not the other?

You don't get credits for split stays -- for example we're doing a split stay in November. Arriving 11/1-11/5, staying at the Beach Club and booked all our park tickets under that reservation. Then we're moving to the Contemporary from 11/5-11/11 with no park tickets since its all under the Beach Club portion of our stay. Dining we have to add to both parts of the split (so 4 day dining at Beach Club; then 5 day dining at Contemporary)

That all depends on where you are looking at to stay, and what time of year you're traveling. Weekdays ARE generally cheaper than weekends, and there isn't a "credit" for staying a full week unless you're talking about booking DVC with points.

What you are most likely seeing is the WDW resort booking algorithm in play. WDW doesn't want orphaned rooms so sometimes you'll find a room is available for an entire week but not a few nights here or there. It is in WDW's financial interest to sell that room for an entire week and not just a few nights. If you really want to stay in a WDW resort, I would keep checking. I've been checking availability daily to possibly switch rooms for an upcoming trip and rooms pop in and out of inventory all of the time. You may also want to see if your conference can extend their convention rate at Swan/Dolphin for you for the two nights after the conference ends. Swan/Dolphin are lovely resorts and are within walking and boating distance to both EP and DHS. While you'd have to find your own transportation back to the airport, adding a private transfer service onto a convention rate at Swan/Dolphin will still, most likely, beat WDW deluxe room prices.

Yes, very much same room type. If I select a full week I see a room for 300-400 per night. If I try to just book Thurs and Fri at another hotel, I am getting rates in the 1500-2000 range per night.

I had a feeling that was the case, and I think people misunderstood the word credit. I see a lot of people doing the split stays and cannot see why if there is such a "discount" for staying the week. I was hoping for a trick to get the Algorithm to see that I am staying the week and need to get the normal rate for the room. I can get Port Orleans for 300 per night for the week, but to try and get it on just those two days is impossible.

Again, just hoping for a trick to get Disney to see I am going to be there all week, but need to stay two more nights but no break the bank.

Someone else posted about swan or dolphin quoting $2000/night rates. Check out other hotels, especially if you want the disney perks. You will not get magical express, etc at the swan/dolphin anyway.

I understand your desire, but there is NO "trick". Disney does not recognize "SPlit stays". It is an internet term. To them, It is actually 2 unique reservations. In your case they are back to back stays, but 2 short hotel stays none the less.

Just curious which resort your looking at that is $1500/2000 per night?

Disney's Booking site is blocked at work. I will look this evening and get back to you. There were only two or three available If I did Thursday and Friday, but everything was available if I did the entire week.

I understand. People do it soo much I just felt like there must be some way to make both bookings look like one trip to get the cheaper rates. Surely people would not pay those rates that I was getting for just two nights. I will be at Disney 8 days, but getting horrible rates for the other days. Looks like I will stay at Dolphin for the duration.

The only thing that comes out cheaper on a split stay are the park tickets because on the first portion of the split, you buy tickets for the full length of your trip (I think the max is 10 days but may be wrong on that). For the second portion of the split, you only pay for the resort and not the park tickets. Its not a significant cost saving, but it does save $
