We’re thinking about doing a split stay, which we’ve never even considered before. It would be two nights at his favorite resort (CR) and then 2 nights at mine (BC).

When I make the reservation do I make 1 reservation with 1 deposit etc, or 2?

If it’s 2 will I miss out on taking advantage of any length of stay based discounts or FD that might be offered?

When will I be able to use the pool at my new resort? Upon check in or at 3pm when my room is ready?

Is this crazy?

It will be two reservations, with two deposits. Just did that for my late May trip. Most length of stay deals are for at least 4 nights, so that probably won't be an issue for you. Same thing with FD.
As far as using the pool goes, as soon as you are checked in, you can use the pool, until midnight of your checkout day.

Here's the thing...I love staying at multiple resorts on one trip. But I never switch if I'm staying fewer than 4 nights. I like to settle in and enjoy the resort. If I'm there for just two nights, that's hard to do. You get checked in, unpack, and get settled. Then, the next day, you have to repack your stuff (granted, that night) so you can be ready to leave on the next day. Then, you have Disney move your bags (and that can leave you bagless until early evening!!!) and then get yourself over to the new resort and get checked in. And if the room isn't ready? You are now without a room for hours!! And you spend a couple of fun days and have to pack up again.

You can always take a cab from CR to BC. That way, you can keep your bags with you. And you aren't taking as much time out of your day to move around. But, your room may still not be ready. Be sure to do online checkin if you decide to do this. That may help get your second room available sooner.

Previous FD offers required a minimum stay of 3 nights at one resort so you wouldn't qualify if it is offered.

RO discounts are per night.
