On our trip we will have a 3 way split stay. The first night we are paying to stay at an AS hotel, and for that night we would like the dining plan. The next 2 places, staying on points, we likely will not ( slight chance of adding for the first DVC stay-still working the numbers.)

So...
Can we add the dining plan just for the first night, and would this be done through DVC?
If we choose to add it for the following three nights, is there anything I would need to do other than purchase through DVC?

It looks like we will have 3 sets of MB's ( with fast passes and dining reservations all linked) and I am hoping with all of these changes things will work out fine.

Can we just get one set of Magic Bands??

Assuming that the AS hotel is one of the Disney All Star Resorts, you would add the Dining Plan through CRO/DRC or whichever TA / system you used to book that night. (AFAIK, you cannot book any of the value resorts with points). So to book the Dining Plan for the first night, you will have to meet whatever the current requirements there may be to do so for cash stays - perhaps a minimum stay or a package of some type.

If you book a non-DVC WDW resort (moderate or deluxe) for points through MS, then yes, you could add a dining plan for just the one night and you would do it through MS.

Not as far as I know. :)

You should be able to decline MBs for the last two reservations through your MDE account. (I did this successfully for our last trip, which was a split stay). You may have to stop at the front desk to make sure the MBs get assigned to the rooms correctly for the last two segments of your stay. (I didn't for our last trip). MBs are connected to your MDE account, so if you have multiples you should be able to use them interchangeably if they are all active and properly linked to your MDE account. Believe there is a maximum number for each person in your account, but not sure what it is. MY DH & I each have quite a few.

Look at the different plans too, for instance, we got a one night deluxe plan that gave us 3 table service meals. That way we had dinner for 2 nights since the plan is good till midnight of the day you check out, and one of those dinners was a signature meal.

Yes- for all star sports we just payed for it- when on the website and booked it ourselves- not travel agent. Can't people just buy the dining plan? It needs to be package linked or something?
And great idea about the upgraded plan- never thought of that, thank you!

We haven't done a split stay yet but will in the future. Please lay out how this would work with dining plan through DVC website. Say we were staying 4 nights at BLT and 3 nights at GFV. Thanks in advance.

For us the DDP is only worth it (checking the numbers) for a short or first half of a split stay. The best value was the deluxe dining plan but each year Disney changes something that reduces the value. The TIW card is also a good deal for us if we get 2 vacations on it.

For the one night stay, I would do the deluxe dining plan if allowed. 2 snacks per person, one coffee/soda mug per person that can be used for the next 10 days or so at ANY resort, and 3 sitdown meals. We usually book our first night in a DVC studio because it is usually a Saturday and a travel day (we all know Saturday night stays are more points) and we book the deluxe dining plan for that one night, because we can use it until midnight on Sunday. We will usually do Narcoose's or California Grill for Sat. night (a two-fer) and Italy in Epcot or maybe Coral Reel for Sunday night. Snacks will usually be a dole whip in the Magic Kingdom and lobster mac and cheese at Animal Kindgom. But if you are going during Food & Wine or Garden Festival, the snacks at Epcot are great!

We usually have the Tables in Wonderland card too. We were not going to renew it this year because of the huge price increase, but I'm going to be in WDW a lot this year and will purchase it again. We usually stay in a one bedroom for the Sunday thru Sat part of our stay and do take advantage of the kitchen and a rental car for food shopping. If you have a number of people in your party then you should definitely look in to the TIW card.

To buy a dining plan you must purchase a Magic Your Way package. (Not necessary if you pay with points). The packages include at least a 2 day ticket for each person on your reservation. I just did a "dummy" booking and it looks like you can buy a one night package, but it won't let you add the dining plan if you aren't getting a MYW package which includes the ticket requirement.

Hmm, we already have 5 day tickets but got them through Parksavers. Maybe this won't work?

It really isn't a good deal for us for nights 2-4. It was a no-brainer for the first night. We are eating at BOG, and want the mugs...

Can you save the 2 day tickets for another trip or save the 5 day tickets you have and buy 5 day tickets with your All Star Sports package?

Either way, buying tickets for a future trip now might make the dining plan just "not worth it".

Did the math for the DDP and to make out in the deal we have to do at least one 2 credit signature sit down a day and another table service sit down. Maybe even a snack. Doing that you make out in the deal but not by that much beleive it or not. If we can get equal value we get the dining plan and just slide, slide slide the funny money card.
