We are doing a "split stay" for our trip. One night at AKL and five nights at CSR. Our day at AKL is going to be a resort day, so we're not going to the parks. The plan was to go to Epcot the next day, have our luggage sent to CSR, and arrive after a day spent there. I have heard that you can't check-in to your second resort until you've checked out of your first. I am wondering if I checked in online to CSR, if once I got to AKL they could check me in without checking me out of CSR.

The problem is that you need to check out of animal kingdom by 11, and then you generally cannot check in until 3 at CSR. You can definitely check in online and then have your luggage sent over. You will still need to go to the online check in desk before you get your room.

I have heard that you can't check-in to your second resort until you've checked out of your first.

It's more that you have to physically check out OR it has to be after official checkout time.

So if you go to resort B at 8am, without checking out at A, then there's a problem. But if you go to B at noon, and checkout time at A was at 11, there won't be a problem. You were checked out of A at 11 even if you didn't go and do the process.

I thought that you could get your room # texted to you so that you wouldn't have to go to the check in desk.

When we did our split stay... we did the online check in for both... We went to SSR's main building and asked about check out and they said you just go. That we didn't have to come back to the main building. So the morning we left SSR to go to EPCOT, we called for Bell Services to come get our things and send them over to AKL Kidani. When we got to AKL later in the day (round 3:00), we went to the desk and the lady took our info, got our packet and checked to see if our belongings had come over on the truck yet...

It's possible, but not guaranteed that you can bypass the check in desk. The following criteria has to be met:

Reservation is paid in full
You performed online check in
You provided a credit card for room charging during online check in
You provided an estimated time of arrival during online check in
You provided a US Cellular number or email during online check in

Even if the above have been completed, you still may have to stop by the check in desk. Also, you will only get your room number texted/emailed to you once your room is ready which could be in the afternoon.

From personal experience, if you had gone over at 10am (or another time before official checkout time) it would have been messier. They can fix it, but it takes time.
