I am considering a split stay at POP for 4 nights and WL for the last 3. The day of check in would be the day I sort of planned as a relaxing/non-park day. My question is will I still need to check out of POP @11am and not be able to check in to WL until @3pm. We would like to get settled in our new room early so that we could go on enjoying the new resort. Any info would be appreciated.

Checking into your new resort works like any other day.

I did a split stay for my honeymoon. I went to the Polynesian at about 7am or so, and checked in there. Our room wasn't ready, but I expected that. I went back to the Beach Club, and we packed our things, and headed to DisneyQuest until our room was ready.

In hindsight, I would have requested late check out at the Beach Club, but it worked out for us.

So no - you don't have to wait until 3 to check in, but your room may not be ready.

So you don't have to wait til your checked out of one resort to check into another? Do you actually have to go do the check out at the front desk? We usually have a cc on file so we just leave. So can we just leave AKL at say 10 am and go straight to the Polynesian to check in?

You don't need to visit the front desk to check out if you have express check out. We also check our bill the night before and pay any charges so we don't have to figure it out after we leave.

DS13 & I are changing resorts twice while at WDW this Aug
Aug 13-19 we're in the VWL. Aug 19 we checkout of the WL Villas and into the W Lodge until the 21st
Then the 21st we checkout of the Lodge and into the BCV
On the 19th we're planning on AK in the morn and WL pool in the afternoon (will take our bathing suits in carry bag)
then on the 21st we're planning Cape May brkst, checking out the countries when they first open at 11am, then using Stormalong Bay

We use our check in day as a park day. We will be checking into cr for the second leg of our stay at wdw. after we check out of our first resort, we will head to cr and if our room is ready great, if not, head to the mk until our room is ready. This beats hanging around waiting for your room.

No, you don't. It works out great. Last year my husband went over to POR to check us in (hoping to get our room requests that way) while I packed up over at the BC. We got checked in at POR by 9 am and didn't leave BC until 11. Then we just hung out by the pool at POR until our room was ready.

We are split staying next week..Caribbean/Poly~
I had planned on taking our time leaving Caribbean and checking in at Poly right after the 11AM leaving of Caribbean....
Since I did make building requests at Poly...do you think it really makes a BIG difference getting to Poly before 11AM? If everyone thinks we should go over early by bus and then bus back to check out...then thats what we would do. Just more of a hassle and I am thinking that most plane arrivals don't get people into the resort before 11????

And can someone run the transfer of luggage by me again....do we take the regular disney bus and CBR will transfer the luggage?

Thanks so much!

The earlier you check into a hotel the better your chances of getting some of your requests.

I would also make it a park day by leaving the room early and going to the 2nd hotel to check in / get new room keys and then head to one of the parks insteading of hanging around waiting for room to be ready.
You would travel as normal on the resort bus and bell services at the resort will move your luggage to the new resort.

No, I don't think it makes a big difference. I mean if you are talking 11:00-that is still very early compared to the actual check in time. When we did it we had a rental car so it was easy enough just to hop in and go. We were there during a holiday week so we knew it was really busy and wanted to get a jump on our schedule.

We did a split between POR and Poly in February. On the switch day, we planned to go to Blizzard Beach. We packed up our stuff, threw it in the rental car, had our backpacks ready for BB and headed over to Poly. When we checked in at Poly, I told the CM that we didn't need the room right away since we were going over to BB, so if waiting would give us a better room, we'd like that. He looked things over and said if we didn't need to get in right away, he could give us a nice room at Fiji -- just come back after 4:00. We got back about 5:00, and were given a gorgeous third floor room in Fiji overlooking the marina. (I paid for a garden view, so this was a wonderful surprise.)

Since we moved our own luggage, I can't tell you how the hotel transfers work. I've heard a mixed bag on that.

The bellman will transfer the luggage for you. You can leave it in the room but I call early so I can tip him. We like to switch but you do loose a day of your room.

Sandi~
That is an interesting point.... never thought about the fact that they would probably book you into the first available room and the "nicer" room (or requested room)might not be ready yet.....Hmmm...so if I go in the late morning but tell them I am in no big hurry....then maybe I can get my request...which by the way was Fiji...overlooking the marina!

I'll see how it goes....Thanks all :cool1:

mar2728-
That's right. After I told him we didn't need a room right away, he said that was good to know. He stated that they always try to give a guest an available room whenever they can -- whether it's "good" or not.

Hope it works out for you!

We will be having Disney move our luggage for our split stay- hope it goes well, because we have 7 other families doing the same at my suggestion! We will be driving from BCV to Poly to check in first and then leaving the room early to head to the parks. Our room doesn't have to be ready before we get there, I wouldn't expect it to, because we will probably check in around 7 am!!!
