We are doing a split stay between All Star Sports and AoA. Wondering how it works the morning we leave All Star Sports? Do we pack up our bags and take them to the lobby/check in area for the bags to be transported to AoA? How then do we get to AoA? We are not going to a park that day, we are just going to spend the last part of our trip at AoA to swim and have fun. I would rather not call a taxi and spend extra money.

:confused3

I was wondering the same thing. We also have a spilt stay and don't know how it works.

Pack up. Contact luggage services. See if they want you to take the bags to them or if they will come to you (if at moderate and above they come to you, but I'm not sure for values). Do what they say. Send EVERYTHING with them but the barest minimum. Why? Because now you'll be taking a bus to a themepark and then to AOA. And you're not allowed to take luggage on one of those buses.

You will NOT have access to your bags that you had sent until after *official* checkin time. Then you'll contact luggage services to see if they are there, and get them.

So make sure you have (in a backpack, not even a rolly bag) bathing suits, sunscreen, any medication you might need, and anything else you will need or want between leaving AS and after official checkin time for AOA.

(a cab would be far, far easier)

Agree with everything PP bumbershoot said.

I'd definitely take a cab. The $15 (probably, even with tip) is so small in comparison to the hassle factor when you are on vacation. (Hassle factors for me: calling bell services (waited on hold, it was morning); waiting for them - you have to be in the room when they arrive - I waited an hour during dead time of year at POFQ going to POR once; waiting/wondering in the 2nd resort room for them to arrive (again, you have to be in the room; so, your spouse and kids go off to the pool while you wait - not very family relaxing fun); phoning when the luggage doesn't arrive; worrying when they tell you on that call - on which you waited on hold - that they didn't log in your luggage - ALL your luggage other than bathing suits and ipads - so they have to search and call you back (while you wait in the room))... Again, all this happened at a moderate when the place was half empty).

Even if it went smooth as possible, someone has to make a phone call and then wait in the room at both ends, and tip at both ends (I don't judge as to the tip!; just saying that might be something to think of).

I'll never bother to do the luggage transfer again with a split stay. It was just so not worth the 'keeping track' of things anxiety I get. And remember you tip bell services when they get your luggage - so, that's $ that could go towards the cab.

:) I agree with others...take the taxi. When they transferred our luggage from Pop to AKV once we got all luggage except DH's expensive camera equipment. So we sat for 1 1/2 hours while they found it and delivered it. Vowed we would never do that again....too much hassle. I do not blame anyone, things happen...we just didn't like the wait.

WDW is great about providing free transportation from resorts to parks, but it isn't set up for resort-to-resort transportation. If you have your bags sent to AoA, you won't get them until 4-5pm, and it's only a guess what time they actually arrive. Your family can take an All Star Sports bus (without luggage) to AK, then AK to AoA. Visit the All Star front lobby in person and ask a CM this question about bell services. Don't call from your resort room, you'll be connected to a call center worker, not an All Star employee, and they might only be guessing at the answer. It would seem that Value resorts must offer Bell Service. Not every guest is capable of handling their bags.

I agree with PP. Take a cab, and bring your luggage with you in the cab. Pay the $15-20. If AoA has a room ready when you arrive, great. If not, AoA can store your bags until you receive notice of your room being ready. You can call for delivery to your room at that point, and it shouldn't be that long to wait.

So you have to be in your room when your luggage arrives at the 2nd resort, too? I didn't realize that, thought it was like DME. We have a split stay planned also, think we'll take the cab option :)

DME will deliver to your room without you being there because you have already checked in by the time your luggage arrives at the resort so they know what room you are in. Depending on what you do on your transfer day, your luggage may arrive at resort #2 before you check in. This is how we do split stays, we leave resort #1 and head to a park until dinner time. Yes your room is assigned prior to you checking in, but until you actually check in that can change.

Thanks everyone! I was totally against calling a cab, but now I see how much more convenient and peace of mind it will be to just call one. Do you just call any cab service, or do you research before vacation and call a specific one?

We usually have Bell Services or the Concierge desk call us one. They're usually right outside so they're there by the time we walk out.

I was planning for us to check out, send our luggage over to the second resort while we headed to Epcot, then check in when we got back from the park that afternoon. If we did decide to go with this option, can we just pick up our bags at bell services when we get there? Or do we have to go to the room and wait for them to bring it? Just want to make sure I know exactly what we need to do. I'd rather not waste time going over the resort in the morning if we don't have to. But I also don't want to deal with lost luggage...

How do you do a split stay? Can you do that when you book thru the Disney website?

You can, but it has to be 2 separate reservations. Disney's awesome:rotfl2: reservation system doesn't recognize split stays.

I'll be there in April, but I think on mine and my DH next trip in 2016 I'm gonna do that. I think that would be real fun.

A split stay is just a term visitors use. Disney doesn't use it. Two or more resort stays in a row, to Disney, is just two or more separate reservations. Nothing carries over from one reservation to the next. You can do your own split stay online.

For example, Resort One is from 4-15 to 4-18. Resort Two is from 4-18 to 4-23 with paid dining plan for both reservations. You need tickets for 8 park days (4-15 to 4-22). 4-15 and 4-23 are travel days.
Resort One is 3 nights (4-15, 4-16, 4-17), checking out 11am on 4-18. Add paid dining plan. Add 8-day tickets.
Resort Two is 5 nights (4-18, 4-19, 4-20, 4-21, 4-22), checking out 11am on 4-23. Add paid dining. Add minimum 1-day tickets.

A room-only reservation doesn't require ticket purchase. However, if reserving a package with dining, you have to purchase minimum tickets. Minimum one day tickets for paid dining, two day tickets for Free Dining. You aren't obligated to purchase tickets for every night of your hotel stay. You don't want to order the number of tickets you need for Resort One, then the number of tickets you need for Resort Two. That will cost you hundreds extra because of the way Disney front-loads their ticket pricing. At the second resort stay, I would continue to use the tickets from Resort One, and have Resort Two's minimum tickets placed on plastic media that you would take home. They could be used on another trip (upgrading # of days on arrival) or they could be transferred or sold legitimately because they're unused. And unused tickets have no expiration.

DME will deliver to your room without you being there because you have already checked in by the time your luggage arrives at the resort so they know what room you are in.

And because they've already received a tip from the service. The luggage guy who delivers your bag from the other resort hasn't. And they would like to give you the opportunity to do so. ;)

It'll be Mears taxi. I would just head out towards the front and ask the CMs outside to call you one. Or to tell you how to get one. That's if there isn't already a taxi waiting!
