Split stay at same resort (diff view types) - will they combine?

When we bought our RIV contract, it was about 8 months out from the dates we wanted to travel in Feb. We used our WH booking on an earlier trip, but were able to cobble together all the Feb days we needed through a lot of stalking, ending up with the first 3 nights in a standard view studio and the last 4 nights in a preferred view studio.

We would rather not switch rooms in the middle of the week if we can help it. Is there any chance at check-in that they would be able to change our reservation to be fully in one room type or the other?

The resort will not change your category unless there is a maintenance issue with the assigned room and they don't have another open in the same category.

Maybe if you're willing to take the worst view without getting difference back? (And then they can give some magic to someone else, upgrading them). Worth asking. They would not upgrade you for free, they might do if the room is available and you're willing to pay the extra points, but hotel desks are famous to mess with members' points, I would avoid it.

No, the standard is less points than a preferred view. DVC doesn't work that way. Sometimes they will do it with a cash reservation, but not with points (unless there is an issue that is Disney's fault where one room type is not available). You could continue to stalk the site, at the 30 day mark something might come available. This is one of the very few downsides to DVC, they book to 100% most times, so if it doesn't show as available, it isn't. And if you don't book at 11 months, you may not get all of what you want without having to change rooms/resorts. They don't normally upgrade DVC for "free" (or downgrade and refund points unless it's their fault).

I asked about that once and we had to change rooms because they did not have a room in that category.

But I will say that one time they said a room was available in a different view for all my nights and if I wanted to upgrade to it we could…so we went from one night lake view 2 bedroom at VGF and two nights SV to all 3 nights in lake view.

So, it cost us the extra points but it was worth it because they had the room ready at noon!
