I have read that if you split your food at the table at Blue Bayou, you will not be charged the split pate fee. Is the same true at Cafe Oreleans?

For example, if my DH and I order pommes frites and a monte cristo at Cafe Orleans and split each would there be a split plate charge? I'm assuming not but thought I would get clarification since this seems to be fairly popular.

If you tell your server you're splitting a meal, there is a charge. If you ask for an extra plate and split, there isn't a charge.

If you both order something different and swap half with each other, there wouldn't be a charge.:goodvibes

So I just tell the server I'm going to eat a plate of pommes frites for lunch. :)

Order what you want and then ask for a plate when the food comes. I plan to order a water at the BB and then split with DD by asking for a plate.

The split plate charge is for them to split the entree and give each person a full sized side/salad. Just order the 2 items and if you need an extra plate, just ask.

When I asked the server if I could just get a plate and split it myself he got very huffy and said he would still charge the split plate fee. So, I usually get a bowl of the gumbo or a salad and DBF gets the MC, I then get 1 quarter of the MC and he has a few bites of my soup or salad. We also get the Pomme Frites and share them as a family and the beignets for desserts. :) I have had the ratatouille there I was very happy with it, it was delish!!!

The split plate fee at BB is $12 which I find outrageous. Yes, you each get a full side and garnish (fruit), but the $4-5 they charge at CO is much more reasonable.

And it's true as the others have posted that if you simply ask for an extra plate after your food has arrived, there will be no charge. CO is a restaurant with food choices condusive to sharing, so of course we all share salads, soups, MC's and ALWAYS the pomme frites!!!

PS - And I had the Ratatouille there last month for the first time and agree, it was really good and tasted healthy with all that tomato and roasted vegetables. Made up for the indulgent pomme frites.
