I just received a FB post from my cousin who is on a 7 day Med cruise with his family that the ship has an engine fire. Apparently all is well based on the post. He said they have 2 working engines and everyone seems to be ok, but the seas are a bit choppy. I wonder if the stabilizers are not working.

Until the fire, they have been posting some great pictures of their excursions. It sounds like they've been having a grand time.

This is all that is out there at this point, from RCCL.... 1 Crew member is still under medical care. She is under way.

She was built in 1995 and is due to be sold off the Thomson lines soon.

A minor fire broke out this morning onboard Splendour of the Seas which is operated by Royal Caribbean. The cruise line posted on Twitter that the 70,000 gross ton cruise ship fire broke out in the ship’s engine room and thankfully it went no further. The fire was contained and extinguished with 1 guest and 19 crew members treated for smoke inhalation.

Royal Caribbean has posted that the engine room fire has not made any major damage and all onboard services are functioning normally. The port of Argostoli (Kefallinia), Greece has been cancelled and instead the ship will sail to its homeport in Venice, Italy.

Freedom had a fire earlier this year (a month before we sailed on her)...what's going on RCCL?

Here is another short article, but looks to be a few hours old.

Since she is heading back to Venice we will have to see how bad the damage maybe...to the engine room and equipment as they are on 2 mains doing 12 knots and the smell which appears throughout most of the vessel.

MCD, it is actually the 3rd fire. the Enchantment of the Seas, also had a fire, aft, a year or so ago. I will point out all 3 fires were well handled based on what we know now.
