Ok, so I have a question about Splash Mountain. As I am looking to plan a surprise trip to the World for me and my mom next spring, I am trying to (already!!!) plan out some things for us to do. Mom is not a big ride person due to motion sickness, but she loves what she is able to do. She has always wanted to try SM, but I don't know how the drop would treat her. She is fine on the small log flume rides at other amusement parks, and it is mostly just the spinning and simulation kid of stuff that she can't do. No roller coasters for her either. I can ride almost everything except Mission: Space with no problem, so this is why I am seeking outside advice for her. I know she would love it if she could do it. Anyone out there with motion sickness experience SM?

Thanks as awlays guys! :joker:

I haven't been able to ride Star Tours in years, just glancing at the Tea Cups nauseates me and I know that Mission: Space will be an impossibility, but Splash is my FAVORITE ride and has never made me sick. There's really nothing to induce motion sickness, in my experience. I can ride rollercoasters but usually do get a little queasy afterwards, not that that stops me.

I'm super motion-sensitive (you know when they have to explain to people in the 360-degree theaters in EPCOT that "the theater is not actually moving?" -- I know intellectually that it's not, but everything about the experience absolutely makes me feel as though the room is spinning and moving up and down) but I finally tried SM and love it.

Part of my problem is that because I'm a ride chicken, I really tense up on rides. By repeating to myself (and not out loud, to the relief of DH and DS!) during the uphill part (when you know the drop is coming) that it will be over in seconds, that I need to just breath and relax my body, I was able to handle it AND enjoy it. I honestly believe that the drop looks worse from the ground than it really is, and I also believe that most amusement park log flumes are much worse (I still won't do those). I think because you've already worked your way most of the way up to the big drop by the time you get there (so you don't have the super-extended straight uphill run that you get on a standard log flume) it's really very manageable.

SM does not make me motion sick but the drop does scare the heck outta me....I have no idea why....5 year olds ride it with no problem but I duck so far down you can't even see me in the picture they take! It's DH's favorite ride so I do do it but with lots of hesitation.....haha.

if she is fine on other log flumes then splash should be no problem to her.
The only way to know for sure is to try-i bet she will get off and get right back in the queue!

If she can ride log flumes from other amusement parks, then SplM should be no problem :thumbsup2 . This is one of my favorite rides and one that the whole family really enjoys because it's not just an around the loop and then up/down the hill and it's over. It's about 10 minutes and it has such a great story, music and is just plain fun :Pinkbounc .

Although I am a coaster enthusiast, I do sometimes get a bit motion sick on spinning rides, but get none of that with SplM!

Enjoy!

Wow, thanks for all the FAST responses- I think we will both be taking the plunge in May! I love SM and I think that she will too- although I will be a nervous wreck the whole time, thinking that she will get sick :sad2: The best part about my, however, is that she LOVES people watching and always tells me to ride anything I want and he has no problems waiting at the end. What a gal :goodvibes

Splash Mountain is not a motion sickness ride. Im guessing the only way you could get Motion sickness on sm, would be becuase of all the excitiment on dropping from so high, and it builds you up. Also all those liittle critters and there songs can give you a headache. Very good ride!

My aunt has serious motion sickness problems, and while Mission: Space, and Body Wars were out, she tried Splash Mountain, and had no problems at all! The only thing that could give you trouble is (obviously) the big drop, but she was fine.

I ditto what everyone else said!!! Have a great trip with your mom!

SIL was so worried about the drop that she totally missed the cute inside part. the drop did mess her up a little bit
