I've read a few posts very recently that mentions Splash Mountain undergoing a major refurb. Does anyone know to what extent this refurb entails. We were there in January and the CM we spoke to told us it was only the annual maintenance closure. So all this talk about a refurb has me nervous. I really hope they aren't installing lap bars like they did at WDW. Anyone know?

It's a really big refurb. For the most part they are redoing the rock on the edge of the flume all over the place as it has been wearing down. The noticeable part is they are completely redoing the loading area. It will be interesting to see how it turns out because it's internal and no over the wall pictures are available. If you recall it was really cramped as you queued up for each row of seating and they are attempting to make this better.

OK I guess I'll allow that! LOL! Well anyway, that's a big relief! Thanks for the info. ♥

They installed lap bars at DW? Yuck! Must have been since i was there in Dec 09. People just mess around on rides and then they have to do things like install lap bars. bummer.

It is sad, but hopefully they will make the ride more safe. Though, the Splash Mountain at WDW is a lot more steady, and I feel 100% safe on it. The one at Disneyland is one that I rarely go on because it just doesn't feel all that stable to me. I know that it IS, but still..

Keep in mid that the themeing may be similar, the track layout similiar but they are two different ride systems. On the MK's Splash you sit side by side, 2 to a row, just like BTMRR, while at DL you sit in a line except the very back row.

So don't expect DL to get lap bars just because WDW.

They said its opening May 26th (or May 27th)

Its been closed for so long, these refurbishments better be good!!!

Given what I posted above. I'm not expecting anything great. But if the line moves quicker from faster loading, I'll gladly welcome that.

We just got back from DW and the lap bars didn't change the experience ... I forgot they were new until I got on the second time.
