Splash Mountain Refurb?

I was just at MK today and took a ride on Splash Mountain and realized over by the drop to go into 'The Laughing Place' there is a little area on the left hand side where there is just steel and a open hole. Then when you go down the drop you can see a plastic shield so water can't go past it.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I know it just went through refurb back in January. It just looks werid.

Not sure about this one. This could be one of the emergency exits where they take people when they have to get out of the logs. Or it could be an oversight, who knows?

Then when you go down the drop you can see a plastic shield so water can't go past it.

I presume you're talking about the small drop that takes you into the flooded mine scene. That shield has always been there. This area is supposed to be dark, but there is just enough light that sneaks in from the next scene that this shield becomes visible. As for it's purpose, I guess there's a walkway and the shield keeps water off of it.

ahh okay that could be it. It was just werid because I've been on that ride so many times that when my boyfriend and I were on it yesterday, we just looked at each other with a confused look.
