OH my goodness... leaving tomorrow! Finally!

Quick question though... Do they reduce the water volume at all on Splash Mountain (or the rapids) when it's cold so you don't get soaking wet? I LOVE Splash Mountain and would be very sad to miss it! But walking around in wet jeans when it's 50 degrees out doesn't sound like fun...

Thanks!

We rode it about two weeks ago during the almost cold time (12/11) and the first time we didn't get wet. The second time we did. If your log boat is just about ready to enter the first lift up and another log comes down the shoot, that boat kicks up a spray of water that "might" hit you if you are positioned in the right place. First time we missed it, the second time, it got us. Not a soaking, but we got wet...:surfweb:

Go for it! We just got home today and went on the ride two or three times on Sunday/Monday. Wasn't bitter cold but very overcast. They don't shoot extra water at you (as I understand it) like they do in the summertime. You get a bit wet when you first sit down in the log (from previous ride) and some water in your face when you do the big drop. But no major water. Definitely NOT a soaking. And the wait times this week were walk on basically because folks were concerned they'd get wet.

I believe they don't use the jet's that shoot across the drop, this is the one that usually gets other logs wet.

We wear ponchos in the winter for splash mountain:thumbsup2 The other riders always say they wish they would have thought to do that. popcorn:: Of course this is a tip from these boards.:dance3:Have fun:santa:

When I rode it last week, I was in row 2 and I only got dripped on by the final drop. But the people I interviewed all said that they were pretty dry when they rode in the very back.

CaptainHypersock out.

I was there 12/11 also and we got drenched and it wasn't even by the boat coming down! it was us going down lol

The spray that appears to be from a splash on the big drop is not on. They seem to usually turn it off when it gets down to a certain temperature as on previous visits I've experienced it being off on chilly nights when it was on during a warm day. It was definitely off when I went on three times in a row on 12/19. :rotfl:

You will still get wet if no one is in front of you in your log, but it is not a real soaking - just sort of like getting splashed in the face/a bit on the side. I was dry about half an hour later when I got *really* wet (which was damp hair on one side of my head and my jeans got a bit damp). People in front break the splash for the people behind them!

The jet that sprays into the watching crowd is also off. :)

Oh gawd, ride the thing. It is the most fun, you won't get too wet. And hurry, they close splash mountain in January. Which means that I will miss it booohooooo

Although they USUALLY do turn off the water cannons in chilly temps, don't assume that they ALWAYS do. I did and wound up getting soaked on a January day in 2008 when the high barely reached 40 degrees! It's ponchos for this family from now on!

Yep, was going to suggest that myself.

We were there a few weeks ago and rode it. Definitely take ponchos for it. We were in the front row of the boat, and had we not had ponchos on we would have been absolutely soaked on the big drop (which was the only spot we even would have gotten wet). Still got the front of my hair somewhat and one little spot on my jeans that was peeking out from the poncho, but it wasn't bad. I don't think the people behind us got that much though. It was not warm weather either. We had sweaters and jackets on. If we had not had the ponchos on, it would not have been good.

You can tell if its on if you watch the ride for a minute before you get on, its pretty obvious if the cannon is on.

I rode Splash Mountain this past Monday night and the water cannons were off. It was chilly out and there was no line at all - just walked right through and was instantly loaded in a log. I only got a spray of water in my face when going down the big drop. I did notice on Tuesday during the day that the water cannons were on - it was a nice sunny day and the temps were in the high 60's!

One of my favorite disney photo's is the kids and I in winter coats plunging off splash moutain. I'll be there in 2 days, Sambuster

I rode Splash on 12/11 and 12/15. The first time I got a light spritz in the face on the big drop. The second time it was more a splash. My face and hair were fairly wet, but it dried quickly. And it was quite cold on the 15th.

All the extra jets and effects were off both times I rode.

The week after Thanksgiving I took my 3 y/o on for her first time. I didn't know about the jets. It was chilly out that night. There was nobody else in the log with us. We were just about to go up at the start of the ride when we got spashed by a log coming down. That was it for my 3 y/o. She got wet and did not want to be on that ride. Unfortunately we were...and I had to comfort her the whole time. At the end the CM asked if we wanted to go again as there was no line but there was no way my 3 y/o was staying on there.
In the days after I rode it a few times with my older daughter and noticed the jets but they were turned off. We went on quite a few times as there was no line. Just to be safe we sat in the second row and squished together in the middle.

Whenever we ride Kali in AK I wear a poncho but don't bother for Splash Mountain.
