Splash Mountain - How wet do you really get?

Hi guys - I need some info.

My BFF and I used to live in Southern California (about 5 years ago) and often went to Disneyland. Whenever we rode Splash Mountain, we always sat more in the back. I remember getting laps FULL of water when going down several of the hills. :scared:

But didn't they refub Splash Mountain since then? I thought I heard that they re-designed the logs. Are the logs better now? We've been to WDW lots of times and always sit towards the back (3rd or 4th row) and don't mind getting splashed. But if BFF gets soaked - she will be SOOOO MAD!! So if you sit towards the back, how wet do you get? :confused3

Also, do they still have the single rider line? If she decides not to ride, I might still give it a try?

Thanks for the help! :goodvibes

Well it depends. If you're in the back and someone tall and big is in front of you, you're likely to be dry. If you're near the middle or front and in a heavy log, you will get the Bwoooosh!!!

Sometimes if you have very heavies in back and lighties up front your log will plane and not get too wet. But I wouldn't count on that happening.

On this last trip.

Slot 4. Drenched.
Slot 4. Pretty darn wet
Slot 6. Dry
Slot 6. fairly wet.
Slot 2. Drenched
Slot 3. Drenched.

It also depends on the time of the year, they raise and lower water levels to control splashing with the weather, or at least I have been told that, and it seams to be true.

Last trip we rode it proably 20+ times, The last day both times I was completely drenched, other days, It was no more than a trickle. The weight spread in the log definately contributes.

Well, we are visiting in January - hence the not wanted to get soaked part. :santa:

How many rows are there in the log? :confused3

Does it have a single rider line still? I'm thinking she won't want to go on it. :goodvibes

Oh man, we got absolutely, totally and completely soaked through to our underwear last week. We were in a heavy boat and when we landed a tidal wave seemed to come overtop. We have never been that wet before on Splash.

You'll get wet, but isn't that part of the fun? DD10 had the pleasure of the front on her first trip (she was 8). In January! She was wet but thrilled. Other times we've barely gotten wet, just Splashed!

Has anyone been on Splash Mountain in WDW?

I convinced her to go on that one before. We sat in the back and got splashed (which is fine)

Splashed to somewhat wet is fine - soaked is BADDDDDD!!!!!!!!!! I'll never hear the end of it.

Are the logs like WDW - are they 4 rows by 2 seats or are they different? When we visited DL before they were 5 rows by only 1 seat across?

Still 1 seat across. Staying out of the front spots will be your best bet to not be soaked.

Generally, the front does get the wettest, and it does vary a bit. Usually, in the middle or back we don't get too wet. Nevertheless, two weeks ago, we were in the middle of the canoe and got wetter than we've ever gotten before -- and we've probably ridden it at least 50 times previously. We got wetter on Splash than we did on GRR. Seems the water level was higher than usual.

When they revamped the logs in DL a few years back, they made them 4 (or it might be 5) single rider seats, and a double seat (side by side) in the very back. But I don't think I've ever got 'soaked' on Splash. Maybe the seating arrangements never allowed us to get that wet. ;)

ditto, damo...We were there last week as well and also got "absolutely, totally and completely soaked through to our underwear"...maybe we were on the same log!...:rotfl2:

2 years ago when i went sat in front... it was one for the first rides we went on, on the first day there... i was drenched!! but i went this last december i sat more towards the back and didn't get that wet

DH was so soaked in seat 1. DD was in the second and I was in the third... so much drier! Bring a larger ziploc with a change of clothes if you're concerned.

We are thinking of going to DL this coming summer and I am enjoying reading these threads so much! I can only speak for riding on the WDW Splash Mountain but as embarrassing as this sounds - we actually put on ponchos before riding it on our last day! We didn't want to have to head to the airport in soaking wet clothes! The picture after the ride of all of us with our hoods pulled over our heads was hilarious!

Yes, it has Single Rider line. Ask the CM taking the FPs for directions.

head over to the exit and enter. you should see the loading area. USUALLY, a CM will ask you what you are doing there but if not, head up to a bridge that goes over to the line and wait there...

I agree... the water is controlled... i remember sitting in 2nd to last row but i still got soaked like hell... i just saw this HUUUUGE wave come over us :D

It all depends on the where the weight is in the log...

I will agree with it depends on where the weight is in the log on how wet you get. I have gotten completely soaked and other times just got a light sprinkle.

The last couples times I got totally soaked ... the first time it was DH and I in the back, then another adult and two small kids in the front. I was in front of DH and I got totally soaked. We with all of the weight in the back, we even bumped the bottom a couple of times. The other time it was the very beginning of the morning, there were only two of us in the log, I was in the very front and the other lady was in the very back. I weighed more than she did and I got totally soaked again. She even commented on how wet I was vs how wet she was. When I rode later that same day, and the weight of the log was evenly distributed, I only got a few sprinkles.

So it's almost the luck of the draw with how you get seated in the log I think. Although if they control the level of the water too, I think that would affect it too. I haven't been any time except in summer (that changes this year:banana: ). But I'll find out this Dec I hope!

It must be a lot of factors that affect your odds.

Our friends just got back - the grandmother said she didn't get hardly anything on GRR but the others on her raft got wet. However, they got SOAKED to the skin on Splash and they had to return to the hotel to change.

With GRR... If you sit by the steps on the raft... you're basically doomed from the start... I ALWAYS get stuck with a seat by the steps :sad2:
