I wanted to post a link to some Splash Mountain construction photos I took back in 1987-1989, but 1), I don't know if this is the correct forum to post in (I couldn't find any other appropriate place) and 2), I apparently can't post links until I have posted enough other comments (does anyone know what the minimum is?).

My primary reason for signing up was to post these photos, so that other Disneyland construction freaks can see SM under construction. No other boards I belong to have this restriction. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hey Mojave. I replyed to your post on another board.Too Cool. :cool1:

I think you need at least 10 posts, and I have seen these types of restrictions on many forums. When you have a forum with almost one hundred thousand members, it becomes very tempting for spammers to join...

Welcome to Dis, dont let the restriction scare you

I respect the need to protect against spammers. It's just frustrating when a legit poster gets "protected" too. Ok, 8 posts to go. ;-)

Since there's no way I'm going to get to 10 posts very quickly, here is where the photos are: on flickr in /photos/mojave33/sets/

Maybe someone who has enough posts can post the actual url?

Darn, I couldn't get any pictures. Oh, I wonder if this means there is going to be a splash mountain in DL, if so when will it be done bye? :cool1:

soooooooooo I cannot see any photos? :confused3 I am confused.

 These are construction photos of the Splash Mountain CURRENTLY AT DISNEYLAND!! Taken in 1988.

Excellent piccies ~ Is it my imagination or does the drop look steeper than the one at WDW?

That's what I thought when I saw them. I think it's just 'coz of the fact that you can only see the actual drop itself and not the mountain or any of the other features the finished ride has... :confused3

That's what I was thinking, but the post saying they were hoping that Disneyland would have their own Splash confused me as Splash Mountain opened in Disneyland in 1989.

I think the drop is the same at both parks, although I think DL's ride interior tells the story a little better. DL has a segment where everybody is fearful and crying because Brer Rabbit has been captured that I didn't see at MK's.

I haven't looked at the pictures yet, but I remember when they were building Splash Mountain. They had made the final drop too steep and a bunch of testers ended up in the hospital. Then ended up changing something on the final drop. Sorry too long ago for me to remember clearly.

That's probably why the ride was closed when we went there in the summer it was supposed to open. I was so disappointed as it was supposed to be open then and it was closed. At least we got to go back the next year and it was fine then. :cool1:

Thanks to azgal81 and simba_one for posting the link that I couldn't post yet. :-)

Very cool!

I'm not really old enough to *really* remember when they were building it, but if I recall correctly I think that originally the test dummies were flying out of the flumes or something so they had to change things. I was only like 12 at the time so I could be wrong, but that's what I remember ;)

It's weird if you look at the first pic and then look at Splash Mountain now. It's hard to beleive the imagineers built such a ride in the bushy area full of trees. It's like they worked magic (well it is Disneyland after all)

I'm just disappointed I didn't get pics when all the trees were still there. But, the first wind I got that a new ride was going in was *because* they cut down the trees, so I wasn't prepared.
