Ok experienced flyers... leaving on June 22 on Spirit Air.
Anyone have experience dealing with a potential airline strike???

What provisions are made for passengers?

Thanks
Chris

Don't think Spirit has any interline agreements (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so in this particular case I think you're SOL. It doesn't sound like they are making plans to fly through a strike. It's possible they could strike this weekend, reach an agreement, and get back to work before your scheduled flight but I have no idea how close to an agreement they really are. Also don't know how long a strike Spirit can weather before going under, they're a privately held company and as such don't disclose their financials

Good luck. Is Plan B a driving adventure?

Yeah, possible, my trip is a quick getaway, tues-friday, so the driving would be a pain, if it were longer, than it wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks
Chris

On our News here in Detroit, they mentioned that Spirit HAS made arrangements to continue flying in the event of this strike taking place. So not sure if they changed their mind about flying through the strike or not but I heard they were.

They have said they have arrangements but frankly no one believes them since they haven't disclosed any details. And they're already canceled their Saturday / Sunday flights into and out of FLL.... if they really had this covered, why would you need to cancel your entire schedule? ALPA pilots won't take over their flights as they won't cross their picket line - being labeled a scab is not a good thing in the pilot ranks, there are permanent lists kept of those who fall into that category.

oh well then yea they probably aren't telling the truth then:confused:
Well I hope your trip isn't ruined with the strike that would be so horrible. I'm holding my breath for a week to make sure nothing goes wrong with Delta.

the following is pasted from an article with the contact information for people in the florida office. Their reservation desk is an absolute pain to deal with. :confused3

i have a flight from detroit to mco on thursday next week. :headache:Took me 2 days to get it cancelled, and they gave me a voucher, My CC company said if they go out of business i can dispute the charges. otherwise, i will have money to use on a future flight. after that, i will NEVER use spirit again.

I live near Detroit (or fairly close anyway) and I have heard nothing about this potential strike. What sucks even further is we have a flight scheduled for 6/19 to TPA.

I'm trying to find solace in news stories about this very same thing exactly one year ago and the strike didn't happen. Holding good thoughts. . . .I really don't want to hassle with a refund AND driving, plus changing all of our trip plans. :sad1:

I booked the trip on 6-6, and found out on 6-7 and their helpdesk was rude hung up on me, yelled at me. it was horrible. they refuse to refund money. I learned my lesson, will never deal with them again.

Oh this is not good. I bookedy mil and bil and his
family on spirit rt 6/26 bos
to fll. We are all flying back together on7/4 on spirit. Dh and me and the kids are flying down 6/23 but on airtran If they cancel the
flights are they putting people on flights with other airlines? Or just refunding people their fares? Anyone know? I had no stress about this trip til now : (

I can understand your frustration, but I don't fully understand why you would expect them to refund you money unless your flight was cancelled and there were no other flights on the same day.

I understand there is a risk of a strike, but it has not yet occured and there are still holding their end of the agreement, at least at this point. If the strike occurs and your flight is cancelled and no other option on the same day is presented to you, then yes, I can see where there is an obligation to refund.

We are scheduled to fly with them on 6/21. I'm not going to panic yet, need to see how it plays out this weekend.

Yep, pretty much agree with buzzmom3, for those of us with tickets a week away, I think we're in "holding pattern." Just wait and see. Shutting down for more than a day or two, would be a huge disaster for everyone at Spirit.

Let's see how it goes until Monday.

Thanks
Chris

My problem with this is that i need to make other arrangments just in case. This is the first time i have ever taken my family on a plane. first time in 10 years i have gone on a plane. As of today, other flights with other carriers that day are quadruple what i had paid. This is a once in a lifetime trip for us and i can't "hope" that the flight occurs. In a situation like this, the company should refund the money to their customers becuase of the uncertainty. and not to mention their customer server yelling and hanging up on me numerous times. it took me 10 calls to get someoen to do the voucher thing, which i dont want, but i guess it is my only option.

Well, this is not good. Hopefully, they get this resolved soon since we are suppossed to leave on 6/21 and the cheapest airfare I can find now, is $1000 more than I paid. If this doesn't work out, we might be driving.

Only today's flights have been canceled so far. All we can do is wait and see what happens and start making back up plans.

Ugh, that is just awful....

We flew Spirit a few weeks ago and we were pleasantly surprised. I would have flown them again but this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If I had a trip planned today i'd be dying.
