Hello,
Trying to book something for my 30th birthday. I would like to go somewhere that the whole family could enjoy. Is there any Characters at the Luau? I need some opinions.

Thank you

The characters are only on stage. Personally the best thing about the Spirit of Aloha is when it is over. It was boring to my 3 and 5 yo. It was crowded and the food wasn't very impressive. We enjoyed Hoop De Doo much more than Aloha. There aren't any characters there, but the audience interaction is great and the food is better than Aloha.

There were no characters when we went... just the cast of polynesian actors and actresses.

As for the "whole family" enjoying it...? Uh.... the kids may like it, but the adults, maybe not so much. Everyone in our group absolutely hated it.

I had two issues: 1. It wasn't worth the money. The food was counter-service quality. OK, but certainly nothing impressive. The show was not impressive. I've been to luaus in Hawaii, and this thing had nothing to compare. 2. They didn't manage it right. They did a terrible job handling the crowds. It was literally a fight to get in there, with hundreds of people pushing to get in. We waited and waited to get sent to the buffet to eat. We also waited and waited for drinks.

I know there are people out there who love the show, but my personal opinion would be to go to Hoop De Doo instead.

We went back in October 2006 and loved it. Our DD was 5 y.o. at the time - she was mesmerised by the show but then again, she loves dancing and that is a large part of the show. :cutie:

There were no characters when we were there and the meals were served family style at the table so we had no issues there. :thumbsup2 Maybe it has changed recently, though. :confused3

We went to both Hoop De Doo and Spirit of Aloha this December. I have been to Hoop Dee Doo about 5 times. First time going to Aloha.

The food at Hoop De Doo was terrible. Might have been an off night for the Hoop De do, I have never had food this bad there. The potatoes were watery and the ribs and chicken were dry. Everything else was good. Probably the worst meal we had all trip. Not sure what was going on that night. the show was enjoyable as always.

After sitting through the first 10 minutes of Spirit of Aloha I was about ready to leave, but the food was excellent (the desert was kind of uninspired, they should probably change it). After dinner the show changed into something great. Not just the fire dance either, all the dancing was great. Before/during dinner the show is a 1, after dinner I would give it a 10. Of course, if you don't like dancing you would probably hate the entire thing except the fire dance. They really need to revamp this show, axing the entire first half would be a good start.
