Spirit of Aloha - should we bother??????

Since you're staying at The Poly I'm sure you'll enjoy it...

There is something very nice about being able to walk from your room to the show... No transportation hassles.

My opinion ?

The atmosphere: A

The food: C

The show: B-

But, just ignore that... :rotfl:

We went in January and loved it :worship: We thought the food was great and even though we didn't have good seats we thought the show was fun :thumbsup2 We are going next year but we will pay OOP for Tier 1 seating. My DD5 loved learning to hula. Do it, do it :yay:

We didn't like it. Worst show we seen in Disney for the money we rather go to the California Grill and see the fireworks.

Those that don't care for it, care to share why? Is it cheesey? Boring? I mean I've sat through some really bad shows at resorts in Mexico, so it has to be better than that- right??? LOL

We are booked there for our September trip and have cat. 1 seating :goodvibes. This will be my second time going (last time I was a kid and I remember really enjoying it back then) and this is the first time for DH and both DDs. My DH is excited about doing it because it is something he has never done and as for our girls, they don't even know we have it booked, but I know they will enjoy the show because they love that sort of thing, they will definitely think the fire guy will be cool :)

Do they still have someone painting tatoos while you wait to enter the show? It's been sooo many years since we've done this show and I think DGrD might enjoy it if we stay at Poly.

I thought the food and service was very good. There was plenty of food and it was all good... if you like the menu...there were some alternatives for children if you asked - hot dog or pbj or something like that. The ribs were delicious. As someone said, with beer and wine included, its not a bad deal.

The story line was a little corny... but, Disney tries to throw a little something in everything for all ages, just like the movies. If the story line bothers you, just pay attention to the dancing. I thought the dancing and music were great. And as everyone says, the fire juggler at the end is fantastic! If you like fire juggling, also see the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom and the welcome the night ceremony at the Polynesian Resort's Grand Ceremonial House (only certain nights).

And I'll say there is some "eye candy" for the men and women.... Some beautiful women in Hawaiian dresses and some very hunky men with big chests. (smile). This is never mentioned but I'm not afraid to say it!

We paid for Category 1 instead of using the dining plan and I'm glad. I liked being up front. Tip -- book as soon as you can at the 180 day mark. The sooner you book, the more likely you will be up front... that's how they assign seating - those who book earlier get up closer within the seating category. The number in your party can also determine seating within category.

lol I did mention something about girls in bikinis and grass skirts, but I think my post got deleted because of something else I said.

It was corny, bad acting the whole story line was just bad. Yeah the was the dancing with fire but it is short at the end until then you have to seat thru 30 min of bad acting. The food was ok nothing special. I really think that for the price we much rather do California grill the food there is good and nothing like seeing wishes from up there way better than the corny show.

My family absolutely adores Spirit of Aloha. We've done this particular show 4 times and it never gets old. They actually changed up the story line when we were there in January. The food is amazing. I just love watching and learning about all the different dances of the islands.

1. Is the pineapple bread like the bread served at Ohana?

2. Is the rice plain or with a spice?

3. If you have kids, did you request the "kid choices". If so did you encounter any problems?

4. Describe the dessert.

Sorry for so many questions....Really interested in learning about this one ;)

TIA for any infor you can provide :lovestruc

First I should say we love everything Disney and rarely hate a place we have been but...

we hated the luau. The only good part of the show was the end. The beginning was nonsense. The food stunk imo (I much rather prefer Ohana) and the server was actually rude. Now it was June and very hot, and we were so uncomfortable.

General word on the street is that if you want to do a Luau while in Orlando, skip the Poly and head over to the below:

Luau_tcm13-8098.jpg

The setting isn't as quite as dramatic as Disneys (it's in a pavillion behind the Royal Pacific, not in a cove like at the Poly) but the food is a heck of a lot better:

Suckling pig with pineapple puree
Ribs glazed with sweet guava barbecue sauce
Roasted wahoo
Lomi lomi chicken
Tropical fruits and sides

Show is comparable to Disney, in terms of containing all the standard South Pacific elements. But it isn't fatigued like the Poly version (moves faster and has better music).

did it, was no better or worse than WDW. Big difference that we saw was they did a couple of lilo and stitch tunes at the poly which energized the kids more.

I completely agree! Neither of us liked the food and our server wasn't good either. The beginning of the show was totally cheesy. We couldn't believe how bad it was! The fire dancer at the end was the best part. We couldn't believe that we paid money for Tier I seats at this show. Never again! (Although we don't have kids, and all the kids at the show seemed to be having fun.) DH kept saying "Maybe it's because we've been to a real luau in Hawaii and know what to expect?" Disney does everything else SO WELL; we were VERY disappointed in SOA.

The food is O.K., not great but O.K. The begining of the show is corny, but once they start with the real dances and outfits it is really beautiful, fire dude is awesome (I think others have already said that). The desert is a show by its self, pretty cool.
